my contribution...

Post by Dead Man »

I love it how this forum has a section dedicated to the poetry of its various members.

so here's something I wrote quite a few years ago that was at least partially inspired by Leonard's music.

Good Night

i've made myself a beautiful bed
out of the tears your
rambunctious
and childish eyes
have never ceased to shed

i've made a pillow out of the silence
that flows through your tired veins
i've weaved my sheets
out of your grief and haunting pains

good night my silent heron
know:
nothing is to be cleansed
no filth to poison your eyes
it could be all truth
it could be all lies
the sun will rise and set the same
my lost begotten sleep
is calling,
fretfully crying my name

me,wearing out the dreams in your head
you, struming the wires of night
put down your wings
and cease your flight

good night.

Welcome to the forum, Dead Man.

‘Good Night’ seems to speak about suffering and grief and the acceptance of death. I enjoyed reading it very much.

"put down your wings
and cease your flight"

I have mentioned before on this forum how much I love the majesty of herons coming to land. To me, that is a wonderful way to describe dying gracefully – the allusion to a heron putting down its wings after a magnificent flight.

Thanks,

Diane

Thanks for the picture, too.

I love the photo of the heron and its baby. As so many, such a proud- and regal-looking bird, the heron.

I like the feel of the lyrics you've written, and your phrasings, although I can't honestly say I was able to glean what I felt might be its overall meaning. Perhaps, Diane is right. Which song of Leonard's inspired your writing?

As we are discussing birds, I am sure I heard it advertised that "Winged Migration" is to be broadcast on one of the BBC channels over the Christmas holiday period here in Britain.

That sounds interesting Margaret. It seems from your posts that you manage to catch all the good things on TV. I will keep my eye out for it.

If I remember it right, I think I was humming "Tonight will be fine" when I got the idea to put those thoughts in writing. I love that song !

Ah, yes, I love that song, too, DM 8) ~ Yes, I can see some of your correlations now with it. Thanks :D .

I hope you're able to watch it, Margaret and Diane [and DM, if you haven't seen it, check it out somewhere]. It's what was in my mind when I said, "As [with] so many..." ~ the film is amazing. The larger screen does it its truest justice, but better small than not at all, as long as you concentrate on it.

I really like this part. Have you written more like this?
