limbo

there were some days when
i viewed events
through grief-tainted glasses,
a diminishing externality
benumming my senses
sharpening another, more tangible
dimension.
a place where
fear crawled
into the fabric of my being.

there were times when
the shadows would gather
and i, in a futile attempt
would connect,
but their language was not mine.
i delivered words to their hollow minds,
and in reply
mere echoes bounced back
compounding the pain
that blighted my existence.

there were eternities when
i lived
but ceased to be.
all mind stuff
relinquishing the bodies hold
leaving flesh and bone decaying
inside the territory where
pain is life
and life - despair.
