Advice on getting more recordings

Post by cdb »

I am Leonard Cohen enthused enough to have just about all of the 'official releases' i.e. albums from 'Songs of...' to 'Dear Heather' + L.C. Live, Live in Concert, Field Commander Cohen + 'I'm Your Fan' and 'Tower of Song' tribute albums.

I understand that I cannot offer to buy bootleg recordings, etc, becasue this is illegal. Please do not misinterpret what I am saying. (If the moderator feels I am being ambiguous then I will understand.)

I have recently come out of studentdom i.e. the poverty of not being able to afford some of the recordings I would very much like to have.

Of course, I say this because I would ideally like to trade. I wondered if there is a reliable and comprehensive list of alternative covers (ie Sharon Robinson?)/live recordings(Iceland...Tel Aviv?). Is there any way I could get hold of an authoratitive discography to tick off what I would like to get? And then I could try and secure items through private messages/ebay, etc and eventually be in a position to 'trade'? Is that how it works?

I see myself buying LC recordings in both the short and long term, though my internet access may prevent me from checking up on things as often as I would like (though not with the gap betwen my first and second messages on this site).

And if I have missed an obvious thread Re: this issue please point me in the direction of it.

Thank you, regards,

CDB

And all Leonard's live recordings - mostly taken from the audience - are listed at http://www.leonardcohenlive.com

Please, write more about you in your Profile - when people would know where are you from, maybe someone would offer you some shows for free... It's common thing to do here

Thanks for the pointers. I'd looked around various CD/record fairs without much success.

I think I'll be concentrating on alternative (i.e. live) versions of songs now I see that the singles don't contain original B-sides but only album tracks- and there seems to be plenty to look for!

Thanks a lot sir. There are some great stuff among these... Improvisation with Audience is really a good listen!
