too much Poe

Post by elazar »

i've read too much poe
im in a malancoly state
through murky waters i must row
i wait with my breath i bate

swirling in opium induced halucian
my society is depressed so
death is the solution
to the maladys of the curious wo

i trek along through the hills
and gaze the valleys eyes
all the lonely souls he kills
thus freeing them from their ties

i rise and give a shake shake shake
these dusty shadows go
and give myself a smile mirrored
i do not look like poe
yet from it all i take take take
a slender sliver of his wo

salute
elazar
breathe deep and live

Don't entomb yourself in too much Poe, get out and fly instead.

Your last two lines remind me of one of the inherent dangers in social work, which can lead to burnout.....the slender sliver really says it.....they can add up and maintaining one's boundaries is crucial.

elazar, I come to your poem with two gifts. One is sympathy. The other is empathy. You can choose either gift. But not both. I know which one I prefer to give. If you've been there, you'll know which one I mean. Byron "sends his regards."

You chose well. Alas, we who know the difference, have paid a high price for the knowledge.
