LIMIT is the defining word. Of course it is not required to be exactly 1000 words. That would be freakin silly.

Oi! I thought you'd gone to work?

Thanks for keeping me honest Byron!

For the record, I work out of my home so the commute is a short four feet.
Obviously, I checked what was going on here when I should have been taking care of business.

Maybe the funny stuff can go on another thread, so I don't have to try an decipher if folks are having a good one on me or are really dazed and confused.

Appreciate it,
Laurie

Fljotsdale~

You have helped clear up what turned out to be a potential bit of confusion.

Thanks!

Enters, stage right ~~

Joe, can you please return my short story as I have gone way over the mark of 1000 words, maybe it wasn't a short story after all. Thankyou.

John K. (not Joe) is taking the submissions.

I suggest if you have specific information for John regarding your story/submission it be sent to him in a PM and not on the board.

thanks,
Laurie

Pffft, I don't like your attitude.

JOE, will you please return my story, I shall then be able to edit it and send it off to JOHN.

Man oh man oh man

This short story competition is becoming a short story in and of itself!

Ok, so as to not give anything away, to whoever has submitted stories so far and everyone else:

1. I am the interthingy.

2. If you sent me a story and you want to edit it, just do the edit and resend. I was originally going to send Laurie stories as I received them, but now I am going to hold them and send them in one shot. I'm ok if you edit multiple times although if it gets out of control I'll throw in a few words so you go over the 1000 word limit and get disqualified (kidding!).

3. As Laurie is now saying, the 1000 word limit does not include a title.

4. If you want to check the word count yourself that's fine but I will doublecheck. If I find a problem I will PM the person back and give them the chance to fix so you don't get disqualified.

Sincerely,
Your interthingy,

John K.

Hi Fljots,

As a member of the WWW at large, you're probably aware of all the volunteer background stuff that goes on with these comps. You know, people with long, boring jobs, taking time out when they can, to do what they can, for nothing. Nothing. Just the satisfaction of helping the 'fledglings' among us.

It's hard work, in fact, it's hard work. Things generally settle down, after the comp. is over. I'm sure your story is in good hands. John Ks.

I'm on my way to the D&D thread.....

See you,
Linda.

Yes, I am aware, Linda! Which is why I always carefully don't get involved at the organisation end of anything like a competition. Once was more than plenty! I have the greatest respect - and even, dare I say it, sympathy - for organisers.

Hi Fljots,

Oh, yeah. So you've been there? It can be a thankless task, but the rewards are good. I think one feels like they've 'accomplished' something. Even if no one else does. :D ha!.

Linda.
