Poetry Comp...or not?

Post by Critic2 »

what do you think. one of our formal poetry comps the topic being staying in a hotel, next room to LC. or just a new thread where geezers post their poems which start with Jim's opening 2 lines

"Leonard Cohen stayed in the room
next to mine in this Mumbai hotel".

proper comp always takes a lot of organising, and , boo hoo, little thanks (except from the classy people like Laurie who always pms her thanks).

anyway, please vote.

slow down everyone, I am becoming overwhelmed by your over-eager responses and almost excessive voting.

Out shopping yesterday for a pair of shoes ~ bought a last minute holiday instead!

I'm packing ~ will be back in a week.
terrible decision, shoes last much longer than holidays and have way more sole. have a good time. are you staying in the next room to Leonard Cohen?

Well, it's not a bad idea, imo. I've tentatively started a poem... but I don't like the two given lines much.
Only just found this video of LC:

This one does make me cry.

I would enjoy the challenge of writing for another competition, but would prefer a new topic, so I had to vote no. Sorry.

John, do you mean you don't like the mandatory 2 line starter or the whole next to door to Leonard idea?

remember if we start a comp. we need volunteers to run it and then they choose the topic and you may get another trouble maker like J O E setting a stinker like W I N T E R.

he even disqualified my entry, which was a 548 line romantic homosexual tribute to Snow, on the absurd grounds that it was both off-topic and obscene, wholly missing the pun, but then that's J O E for you and his strange W A Y of doing things.

this time let's hope we get a proper J U D G E again whom I can bribe appropriately, that's B R I B E....

I usually like open-ended ideas, but I could work with the idea of being next door to the master. I wouldn't like being tied into the first two lines though.

oh, i voted for it because i could care less. bring on the mandatory two lines. hahaha. might be boring for the judge, like a teacher reading 30 essays from their classroom on the same topics, but i guess it's all up to the judge, right?
