December 26, 1967 - 35 Years Of Leonard Cohen in Pop Music

Post by tomsakic »

Yes, it was today - or maybe tomorow, because some books says that "Songs of Leonard Cohen" were unofficialy released on December 27, 1967. Officially, the album went out in February 1968.
It's 35 years of Leonard Cohen in pop music. As Judith Fitzgerlad wrote, the album which forever altered the popular-music soundscape for the better.
Thanks, Leonard.
Please, friends and comrades, wrote your comments here,

Dear Tom,

thanks for reminding us about this - I'm sure we all agree
that this very release was the foundation stone; it started
the process which finally has put our small community together.
It did not change the world but for the lives of many of us here
its significance has been remarkable.

On personal level, thanks to Leonard and his work I have met so
many wonderful persons both in the cyber world and also
in real life!

I recall buying "The Songs of Leonard Cohen" in winter,1967. It was the first British pressing; heavy vinyl, which retains the scratch marks in the middle of "The Stranger Song". My mother wrote my name on the back of the cover when I went to university in 1968, saying "Andrew, he looks just like you, so watch out for girls trying to steal your record at parties".
I still have the record, but I carry more scratches. My mother's comments about that album formed the first and last lines of "Mythologies and Oranges".
This is a true story.
Yours, Andrew.
