What a coincidence that is! I have a cousin who is Buddhist and her dog is called .... Metta!! Some people believe that there is no such thing as coincidence. I'm sure you're aware of that, this just seemed, well, coincidental.

And yes, Steven, everything is about life and its consequences, isn't it? This and other threads as an example. All sorts of little mini-dramas and life going on beneath the surface. As is the case with books. You feel that some authors unintentionally hit the 'Buddhism button' :D if you will, as the axiom embraced by Buddhists is so very prevalent. Everywhere. I'd never thought of Thoreau in that way before, but yes, many books tend to touch that area. I guess that's because the tragic-comic lives we lead require some real thought so we can deal with it all.

Bruna,

You expressed yourself very nicely, far from "babble." Thank you.
People like Jung have spoken of the power of religious archetypes.
Others like Joseph Campbell have written about what people like
Jung had to say on this. Artists like Leonard Cohen artfully use
some archetypes, e.g. Jesus, as here, to speak to us. People like
you sometimes share with others how they speak to you
and in so doing we're reminded of some commonality, which is to
say you're "not the only one..."

Linda,

"Metta," is a great name for a dog. I probably should resist the
temptation to say that some would also find "Leonardcohen" to be
a purrfect name for a cat. I hope bad puns aren't a capital offense
around here.

You bring up "coincidences," sometimes these rise above laws of
chance to the level of synchronicities. Maybe your cousin's dog,
being called "Metta" is coincidental or maybe not. Hopefully, it's
synchronous to much "loving kindness" (as the word is often
translated) flowing into and through all of our lives.

It's good, I think, to connect with "life and its consequences," though
it's probably fair to say that many people are disconnected to it.
I don't disagree with you about "some real thought" being necessary
to help us deal with the "tragic-comic lives we lead." Most of the
best solutions we come up with, though, I find, are from the level of
stillness and aren't intellectually based. I've a feeling you might
agree.

Linda,
thank you for your words, I am happy :D

Steven,
thank you, too. I wanted to say, that when I wish to express my inner feelings by words I always end confused in front some limits.
I prefer heart to brain.
LC´s poetry is so sensitive and emotional, it seems to me to be guided by emotions, he never avoid things which could be marked as trashy or pornographic. I love it. It is great gift he gave me, because it helped me to release myself in my own creation. Being brought up in the communist system I used to have Kafka´s mind- I mean the instant feeling that if you do something wrong or improper you would be punished unmercifully.
It is not a real fear, it is there in your subconciousness.
Leonard Cohen was like medicine for me. :)

Leonard Cohen is, put simply, a life force for me. When I hear his music I am transported out of my pain and loss and feel a metamorphosis. I was inducted to the 'Cohen Fan Club' at a very early age - my dad was a late blooming hippy. I still get shivers when I play old 'Suzanne' and so many others. They cut into my heart so fierce; Dad died a few years ago. In the 90's, on my travels, I came upon 'The Future'. It literally blew me away. The power of this man, the grace. I have a fair collection of Cohen's work, some on CD some on vinyl. I have read little of his poetry except for "Flowers for Hitler". I also enjoyed his biography by Ira Nadel. I still can't believe tracks 1 & 2 off 'The Future' still play!

Actually, Tchocolatl, there seems to be a thread behind this thread,
that is like life, "Beautiful," though partly sad and touching.
Indeed, indeed. ("caught in the grip of the undertow") I had just misread I guess. Now this is why I feel sorry for.

Please continue, I did not intend to interrupt anything.

But Tchoco,
it was Steven´s thread, so your comment just means that you recognize his question in the very beginning to be interesting...
So it was kind of praise from you :D
