You know...where the men get to do the singing and bragging and the women just jiggle around a lot.

Yes. I wonder why it is like that. That has no relevancy.

Let me explain, the subject is not about a man having many women around him, after all, then this video was made only to following a fashion without taking into account the subject, all those masculine and femine polarizations that suggest sex are bizarre as long as the plot of the song is this little duck in its pubble of water trying to catch up with his gang before winter caught him to death. So why those poses and breast.... tssss.... some people are really so obsessive about attraction between men and women that they are showing images about this that have no link with the song the video is about....

I would have understand the use of this style if the song would have had these yrics, for example :

"Because of a few songs
Wherein I spoke of their mystery,
Women have been
Exceptionally kind
to my old age.

They make a secret place
In theeir busy lives
And they take me there.
They become naked
In their different ways
and they say

"Look at me, Leonard
Look at me one last time".

Then they bend over the bed
And cover me up
Like a baby that is shivering

TheeeEere, the images of the video would have some relevancy. Yes. And mind it, it is a non prof. opinion.

It should have been:

This video makes it look like the "secret place" in women's lives is a frat house.

Hello all,

It seems as though the entire world has seen this but me!! This was not always the case. It would seem that I have much LC catching up to do! Right now I can honestly say that I'm glad I'm not younger. To start from the very beginning would be quite a journey! Thanks everyone for posting your thoughts and links, etc. I'm sure I'll be as pleased as everyone else.

The video is en excellent visual rendering of the main theme of the song - life after the ending of sexual activity. The girls bouncing on the bed are part of something that Leonard cannot access. He is always on the other side of the window. He can view, but not participate. The best he can manage is a sedate, fully clothed, waltz.

YDF, swishhhhhsss... I do not know the meaning of, of what? You look to me like those prudish/guiltyaboutnudityand/orsex/sickpeople that are so obnubilated by their obsession of hiding so thought and reality to their mind and world that they just see this everywhere and mist the life/rest. Poor you. Really.

The woman is a symbol of energy of youth, mind you.

Besides, Leonard said once that he himself was bouncing up and down on the bed out of joy after having done his first (or one of his first) concert, well after having realized that he "made it" to pass from a poet to a folk star/singer. So I can see it also as the beginning of his career ("because of a few song") from where is is now, after a long time.

Try to think of something else than the f world, for a while, and have another look to the video, maybe.

In what is presumably intended as potentially a prime-time video, it is not possible to show too 'adult' goings on on the bed. Bouncing up and down and having a good time strikes me as a particularly good visual analogy, and is in keeping with the gently tongue-in-cheek tone of the song itself.

It could have been possible. Why not? But if it was shown, the video would not have been as good then, and not as leonardcohenesque (in its many layers of understandings).

I love the videos do you think they are going to put them out on a CD. Very tongue in cheek. I don't think I have seen the equivalent anywhere although they did remind me slightly of the Jonny Cash and June Carter last video and they was one of the best videos ever made.

Have they been made for public consumption and if so where would they be shown.

There is even a chance it could be banned because of the naked women and then everyone wants to watch it!

What I see in that video is a silly superimposition of two pairs of bouncing breasts over the scenes of Leonard dancing with Anjani Thomas. It's dumb. Yes, that's right. DUMB. And tacky. And puerile. Open-mindedness or prudishness has nothing to do with it. You can admire it all you want (and you will) but in this instance the Emperor has no clothes and neither does his offspring. It bites, I know. But that's the way it is.

Because of to discover things as this video I have to come often to this site.

It is interesting and funny. It confirms my opinion about Dear Heather and the environment that I perceive when I listen to it. The meaning of Because Of, well, certainly I have an idea

, I don't want to bother anybody with a non-fine commentary, only I will say that I agree with linmag.

A friend of my age said to me that he has a problem; every day he liked more the young girls. You can not burn them for real, so it is silly, it is nothing, it does not exist, or if it does, it has no importance, as nothing, as something that does not exist. You kill them in an another way. I reckon I know flying body parts when I see them. That part of the video is just plain stupid. Poor Anjani singing her heart out and Leonard pretending to be so attentive...and all the time he's got those two giggling bimbos on the side. Pathetic.

Well, after reading all the commentary, I finally saw the video. I thought it was playful, in good taste, Leonard's and Anjani's parts were mature and quite lovely. What is the fuss? There are videos on MTV and Much, that are waaaay over the top in terms of excessive and gratuitous sex. This is nothing in comparison. It's a nice video of a good song. I think Leonard's part, just speaking then dancing was perfect for a man his age - the 'bouncing, giggling' girls are in his past. They do not figure prominently as Anjani does. They are in silhouette. This is just a fun video. That's it.
