EBAY - USA

Post by Paula »

There is on Ebay someone auctioning "Bird on a Wire" VHS tape.

It is no good for me  as I am PAL but I was not sure if any of you in the States fancied bidding on it. What I would say is if a few of you want it why don't you nominate one of you to bid (so you are not bidding against each other) and then all contribute to the cost of buying and copying.

I would be very happy to contribute towards the cost if anyone can get it on to PAL.

At present it has about 7 days left to run so I would not bid on it yet

The quality of the tape now on eBay is low.
NTSC to PAL conversion would kill the rest.
PAL tapes of similar or better quality are circulating
anyway in Europe, so I suggest you skip this auction.

Oh well it was worth a try. If anyone hears of the video circulating in PAL format could they please please let me know. I have to be honest if that video was in PAL regardless of the poor quality I would have bought it.

Paula,

Jarkko's right. This "Bird on a Wire" is the worst. Ever. It's like viewing a videotape through the front windshield of your auto. In the pouring rain. With the wiper blades on. But the seller has made a small fortune on it.

Thanks for the warning. Am I being stupid but if the guy is a shyster why don't you mention it to EBAY so they can block him.

Thanks for letting me know though sometimes I am very trusting

My guess, eeey, is that the seller has made a fortune on Bird On A Wire because people who like/love Leonard are willing and anxious to have anything on him....even in compromised quality. I personally am very glad to have my copy of Bird On A Wire, as it has allowed me a most unusual view into Leonard's world during that time, including the madness of it all, and his vulnerability and anger within the madness. I see sides of Leonard that are very "humanizing" and that I'm guessing I would never have seen, absent this tape. I recommend it highly, though I suspect there may be aspects Leonard prefers the world not see. The "rainy, wipers-going, windshield" effect gives an in-the-field [on the battlefield] documentary-type authenticity to it.....I think it's priceless.
