Patricia O'Callaghan

Post by Jim Williams »

Can someone tell me if Patricia O'Callaghan's 'Real Emotional Girl' is worth buying? I've heard snippets, and I'm undecided as to whether, on the one hand, her undoubted talents add a classicist grace to her choices from LC's oeuvre, or on the other, leave the songs shorn of all their emotional power. Yeh, I know - that's some indecision. But, hey, is it crap or what?

I think Kush likes the CD but he isn't here. He sent me the copy of that CD - she obviously is talented, but she sang LC - and other artists she covered - as 20s and 30s cabaret songs, with big touch of operetta style. Well, I am not a big fan of operetta

Sorry I didnt see this post earlier.....

Yeah....I really really like it but then I like strong voices that sing out loud and clear. No whispering and whining and making love to the microphone.
All the LC songs are great , she makes a mess of Bob Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone trying to go for a cabaret/operetta style which just does not work in the way that she strives for I think.

Overall the album is a mixed bag but the LC songs are terrific. Especially Hallelujah, Take this waltz and A singer Must Die - these three are worth the price of admission.

A great album of Dylan song done in cabaret style is Barb Jungr album 'Every Grain of Sand'. But that's extra information.

On another note how does one obtain Perla Batalla's LC album.....I like the musical backing and her soulful latin-tinged vocals.

I wonder also. She didn't answered my email, her site isn't updated with new album... There are many of us waiting, don't worry Kush. Jarkko said she's out of town.
