You probably didn't either. Probably went straight to the 'net.

I didn't know which version I like best? I now that Bromberg recording for roundabout 20 years now. At that time 'net and web were as completely unaware of me as I was of them. ;)

I like Nina's version the best. :)

She sang it live when I saw her in concert a few yearsago and I just cried.

Dylan! I never would have expected that. Not after looking at your signature. ;)

I have a version from Nina, and I really like it. I prefer Bromberg's rendition, though. It's so casual. And of course a completely different style of doing things. Maybe you wouldn't even listen to it twice, but de gustibus non est disputandum.

I will listen out for it. Mr. Bojangles is a favourite song of mine, whoever is singing it. When I heard it performed in the stage musical Fosse I was moved, especially by the dancing that accompanied the song. It gave it a whole new meaning to me.

Dylan,

You are a woman possessed. Isn't it wonderful when you fall in and can't climb out?

Oh, how this woman yearns for some Nina. I love a strong female singer. The torchy, hurting songs are always so beautiful. A vocal like those women can deliver will hit the heart as hard as Leonard's lyrics. Unfortunately, I'm not going to correct that last sentence. I think you know what I mean.

I don't know if you like her or not, but I saw a program not long ago on Cassandra Williams, and it showed the entire rehearsal for a performance. It was very absorbing. It was strange also, to see her stop cold in the middle of a torturous and hynotizing vocal, to talk about chords or keys or something technical, and then pick up the song with the same passion.

I don't know where anyone got the idea that, I could name many here, are singers.

See you,
Linda.

Surprise, surprise, guess who's here. On your comment re: the Fosse perfomance, I think I told you once, Dylan, that I saw the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre perform and Laura Nyro's song "Been on a Train" was performed? The song, if you don't already know, is about losing a man to heroin addiction. It was performed by one dancer and I almost cried when I saw that.

About a year afterward, a friend of mine's brother died of a drug overdose and I gave her the record with that song on it. I've never been able to find it again. It's out of print, it's never been put to CD (as far as I can tell). Anyway, these are performances to treasure.

I do like Cassandra Wilson. I have a few of her albums. I think my favourite is Belly Of The Sun. I like the bluesy sound of her voice and music.

Thanks for the correction: Wilson. Not Williams.

My Saturday trip to Graz, Austria, was succesfull. Tori Amos, special edition with extra DVD, in beautiful package :P Then new CD by Wovenhand, Consider the Birds :P And best in the end, the CD I was looking for about 5 years, from Washington to Munich, was there on sale (obviously they found few unsold copies in the storerooms) - Jennifer Warnes, The Hunter (1992)! Now I wonder listening to "Way Down Deep" which Leonard wrote the lyrics... Anyone noticed, or I'm paranoic?

Gee, Tom, you're collecting an awful lot of nice CDs. Too bad I don't have the same access that you do. Oh well.

Linda.

I'd love to talk about Way Down Deep, but I don't have the CD. Oh well.

I think Jennifer Warnes is underrated as a solo artist. I think she has an amazing voice.

A lot of CDs are being re-released latley.

I have been searching for Nina Simone's 'Fodder On My Wings' album for years and years. It was only ever released in France and that was a very limited release, so was virtually impossible to find. It did pop up on Ebay from time to time but went for vast amounts of money.

Anyway, it was given an official re-release today and I'm expecting my copy in the post from tomorrow. I haven't been so excited about an album for a long time. :)

Dylan,

Good for you! I agree on Jenifer Warnes. I haven't even got Famous Blue....but I expect to someday! With a lot of others. I know now, that when I see something I better grab it and hold on to it. After losing out on the Nina CD, and some others, I'll be keeping my eyes open for a lot of material as well.

Linda.
