Comatose in Amsterdam for Elazar

Post by George.Wright »

It was a beautiful cold sunny Febuary afternoon
and there was an unearthly still in the Dam square
there were a multitude of green human statues there
thronged by shapes of fleeting life forms monsoons
shimmering and throwing money and akin to baboons
Oh for the sweet acrid pungent aroma of the coffee shops
where the mind can get deeper and lost back into proper thought
in times forgotten and times that were lost
like fossils petrified in the forrests of frost
to sit beside the sides of the old sepia canals
with windows of entertainments, an unreal backdrop of accost
take in the cold air and take in the damn lot
where gothic buildings sway and defy the logic of straight
leave your heart completly devoid of hate
and confine yourself to your comatose fate
watch dancing white and red lighted mannequins flicker the psychadelic lust in the windows of perception gyrate
skip back to the square and suddenly all is now gone
it's all going to be left to the sentiments of an unreal and surreal song
into the darkness of night and the cold damp veil of deciet
comatose in the Dam, wasn't it sweet there?
you suddenly realise you were the statue sitting in the square

From Byron to elazar, I'm lucky enough to have been there and seen the human statues in the wide squares. Yes, the buildings do seem to lean at every angle, and yes, I've sat in the square and allowed myself to allow myself to do nothing, which is not an easy thing to accomplish. However, the Dam is beautiful, whether you visit the brown cafes or not. You've conjoured up a very happy memory of a time enjoyed. Thank you.

im deeply inspired...to go to amsterdam! but really, this poem was just amazing it had the affect on me like when i read a comfortable book like one long run on sentence.maybe because the imagery is so well introduced and flowing.and your take on the red light district was really great.

I really loved this poem too. Especially the line ending with: "a kin to baboons" Are you an evolutionist?

I thought the Baboons were the best image.
I think there was divine intervention in evolution so i would subscribe to both theories.
