Workshop

Post by chary »

A weekly workshop with a new topic every week.

The poet can use it as an exercise and specify whether or not critiques or comments are welcome.

Include the music people though there doesn't seem to be any of them left.

Topics could be picked at random by committee or an individual.

No pressure. No winners. Only beautiful losers.

I think you've got a great idea here. Much more productive and interesting.

I think a weekly topic is a great idea. but it will need some co-ordination and some commitment and I'm not convinced it will work on this forum.

I don't have a story. I love L. Cohen and like this site. I thought it would be fun to be a part of the poetry forum.
I just thought a workshop would be nice.

I don't know if you have hovered here for long before posting but this is not a hard-core poetry forum. I presume everyone here is an LC fan and most like poetry. but also there are quite a few who have been here without offering a poem or a single crit. this is not technically illegal but is of course irredeemably sad!

if you are interesting in learning, improving, or just sharing poetry analysis with others then I recommend the egoless poetry site. it has some excellent critique tools and includes the excellent advice that when you receive negative crits. the "proper" response is to say "thank you" and learn. you will realise immediately from that approach that it is a site for grown-ups and not the right place for those with insecurity issues.

btw the small number of us who attended a poetry workshop during the LC New York Event last summer thought it a real highlight of the weekend.

Yes, it's true. Critic2 was ripping apart others poetry for months before he posted his first poem (of course you must not consider the countless rewrites of others work he did so he could mock them).
And his first poems were posted during the first contest so they were anonymous. It was only after he won the trophy that he came forth. It was only then that we realized that this defender of "real" poetry was not quite as great as he would have us believe, and most certainly in no position to judge the works of others. But, that hasn't stopped him!

I myself have offered some advice on his works only to be called a "loser" and a "bastard". He has admitted that his recent trashing of Teratogen's poems is based on some paranoid delusion and has nothing to do with the writing.
This from the same boy who just used the words "grown-ups".
Sound advice to all aspiring poets:
"Just experiment!" Critic2
"Just do it!" This message has been classified as spam and will be deleted by the moderators
"Maybe it will work, maybe it won't." Critic2
Wow.
