A Few Words from the Inter-thingy

Post by linda_lakeside »

Hello All!

This is the first opportunity I've had to get online since Joe posted the poems from the competition last night and I'd like to say a few words, as well as offer some thanks.

When I came home last night, I idly checked my inbox and there was an email from Joe saying that we were ready to announce the winning poems, now. Joe was online, we exchanged emails and then I watched as each poem came up. I instantly recognized it, I knew its content and the author. I re-read each poem with a fresh perspective and it was a truly incredible experience. I had lived with these poems and knew them almost as well as the authors themselves. When Joe announced the winners, even though I had already been informed of which poems they were, it was like watching the winning lottery numbers come up on the screen. When I tried to utter a few words of thanks to Laurie, I am quite certain that what came from my keyboard was not sensible English.

If there have been any mix-ups, mistakes or confusion, Blame it on Midnight, Blame it on the Moon, Blame it on the Bossa Nova or blame it on linda_lakeside, the intermediary, but please, don't blame Joe. He has done a wonderful job. A more honourable judge you could not hope to find. He is a man to be admired.

To all the board members, thank you for showing me, each day, how powerful and beautiful language is. To those that entered the competition, I am honoured to have been the temporary custodian of your fine poetry. Thank you all for the experience.

Linda

Dear Linda,

Thanks for the kind words, but as you know I'm capable of the occasionally f*** u*.

It's really been nice working with you, too.

What a beautiful acceptance/stepping-down-now-that-it's-over speech, Linda! I knew you'd love it! It's an amazing perspective and connection you get with the poems, isn't it!?! I wish I'd said all that ~ I felt it ~ and meant it. Sorry, Laurie. I shoulda, really shoulda, said all that.
