Alejandro Escovedo to showcase songs of LC in Austin, TX
Re: Alejandro Escovedo to showcase songs of LC in Austin, TX
Thanks for posting this information. I plan to be there at the Dallas show next month.
I can certainly see an LC influence on some of Alejandro Escovedo's slower songs (The Boxing Mirror, The Ladder) but in general he is more rocker than balladeer so I would not have guessed it.

I'm going to be participating in this show, as is Mitch Watkins, so there will be 2 Leonard Cohen touring alumni. Really looking forward to it!

So i attended the Dallas show at Poor David's thinking it was part of a LC tribute concert series but apparently the tribute concert is only the Austin date. My bad..... nevertheless it was an evening of great songs and stories. He may be the only artist i know whose between song stories and anecdotes from his life and experiences are worth the price of admission.
He mentioned the LC tribute and the participation of Julie Christensen and Mitch Watkins.

From Laura Weitzner:
I wanted to let you know that my Mom's [Karen Weitzner's] friend, Gina, the one who introduced her to LC's music years ago, recently went to an LC Tribute concert by Alejandro Escavedo at Austin City Limits in Texas. I know you love hearing LC news and like to keep track of covers and tributes so I wanted to let you know.
Gina wrote that, "[Alejandro Escavedo] performed his annual birthday show at the ACL Live Moody Theater, this year showcasing the songs of Leonard Cohen and paying tribute to his work, along with performing his own music. Julie Christensen was a backup singer for the show and she did a solo of Anthem, which was lovely. Mitch Watkins, who lives in Austin also participated on the guitar. We were in the 8th row so we could see everyone well. There was also a special guest, Robert Patrick, who sang Joan of Arc with Julie C. They alternated singing and it was just incredible. They also did If It Be Your Will, and Alejandro sang A Thousand Kisses Deep, Democracy is Coming and other, older songs."
