My Mom Is Dying

Post by Regan123 »

I'm terribly sorry to hijack this forum. I am a huge fan of Leonard Cohen. The reason I am is my mom. She is in the hospital right now dying of colon cancer. She has 3-6 months. When I was a child, she would play Leonard's records and 8 tracks and I could see the passion for Leonard's music. She has given her entire life to helping others, without losing her spirit. Her sense of humour is through the roof, and her strength is unmeasurable. I would give anything to give her something special before she leaves us. Leaves us with a hole that would swallow the last tree. if the people who read this could please get a hold of me for any kind of hello from Leonard or appearance, I would be forever grateful. Just so you know my mom is in Medicine Hat ALBERTA and we are true Canadians.

I Send My Regards,

Dear R Foster,

Hard to believe. Forty years a Leonard Cohen fan, I just found this forum, joined, and the first post that caught my eye is yours. My mother died December 10, 2014. I took care of her (single-handedly) on a near-daily basis from June - December, and then took care of her affairs till April 2016.

Your mother must be special to have been a a Leonard Cohen fan (my mother was too old and would have had no interest in music of the 60s and 70s, very understandably). I was in New York when the books, volumes of poetry, and then albums came out in the 70s and beyond.

Writing--at least it was for me--can be very helpful, so find the PM option here if you care to write to me and I’ll have stuff to say and share. I think I am a good listener, and I like to write.

You didn't hijack anything, Regan... and I am so sorry to hear of your beloved mother's impending death. I lost my Mom in 2011, and I will never recover from her loss. There is no one else who will ever come close to replacing her. I try to deal with it, but it's still very hard. My heart is with you as you try to prepare for losing her. There truly is no preparation.

I wish that I could give you hope for a visit to her from Leonard, but that is so unlikely as to say it is impossible. My only suggestion would be that you write to Leonard on her behalf, and ask that he somehow reply. Still no guarantees, but at least there's a ray of hope in it.

His management's address [for writing him] is:
HOW TO CONTACT
LEONARD COHEN
Leonard Cohen lives in Los Angeles and Montreal. All correspondence should be addressed to his manager, Mr. Robert Kory, at rkory@rkmgment.com.
Kory & Rice, LLP
5455 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 1701
Los Angeles, CA 90036
Tel: 310-285-1630 ext.601
Fax: 310-278-7641

Please don't be disappointed if you don't hear back [even though I know you will, and understandably so]. Leonard gets so many letters in varying forms, and so many requests. I don't even know what to suggest to try to get your request seriously considered. I wish I did because I would definitely spell something out in detail for you.

I wish you the very best of luck in your endeavour. It's a deeply loving gesture for you to do for your Mom, and I know how much it would mean to her, as well as to you.

All the best,
Lizzie
