This subject brings to mind a different and very real connection between rock music and astronomy:

Brian May, lead guitarist for Queen, earned a BS degree in mathematics and physics in college in the UK, and had been pursuing his PhD, with his doctoral thesis to be the study of "reflected light from interplanetary dust and the velocity of dust in the plane of the Solar System." He abandoned his PhD work in 1974 when Queen attained popularity, opting to concentrate on his musical career with Queen, and subsequently as a solo performer and as part of other collaborations. In 2006, more than 30 years after abandoning his science work, May re-registered for his PhD and completed his thesis, and in 2007 he was awarded his PhD.

To me this is an extraordinary story. Maybe someone (Sylvie, are you out there?) will decide to write a biography about May delving into his dual passions.
