Leonard Cohen's "Nevermind" to be used for TV intro

Rumour has it that this song is going to be used for the True Detective season 2 intro. On first lesson I thought it was a bad idea, but it's growing on me.

Jeff Sneider poster on his personal Twitter account that the new song will be Leonard Cohen’s “Nevermind.” He also added that it lacks the punch of the True Detective’s first season opener, “Far From Any Road.”

I wasn't a huge fan of the song on first listen, but it grew on me. I hope it is the new intro song, it's got the right vibe.

While the track, “Nevermind” by Leonard Cohen from the 2014 album Popular Problems, is thematically in keeping with the show (and maybe arguably a little too on the nose), musically it’s in another dimension. It's delivered in Cohen's latter career speak/sing approach, over a minimalist beat, a subtle organ line, and some back up singers, while the Arabic elements of the song have been removed for the TV show edit. But it's the lyrics you’ll want to pay attention to for a hint at the flavor of the new season:

A lot of people are complaining but I think they're the sort who want season 1 all over again. Season 1 intro was great, but it wouldn't go with the theme of this season.

If they opened their ears and listened to what Leonard is saying, they'd see why it was chosen.

I did not watch Season One of True Detectives but taped the series when I heard 'Nevermind' would be the opening song for Season Two. I love it and it goes so well with the images. Very powerful and intense. Kind of eerie, spooky, mysterious and sexy…
It is so awesome! Many people who have never heard Leonard's music will be curious I am sure. I think its a perfect fit and it will reveal more and more each time one listens to it. So glad they chose Leonard to represent the new season.
I may not even watch the show but will get to hear the song each week.

A news (?) article out today on website "MusicSnake" (nope...I never heard of it either) that for the upcoming season (2nd) of HBO's True Detective the theme song will be "Nevermind" from "Popular Problems" .

I love that LC's song has more 'likes' on YouTube than the opening credits for season one. If I had HBO, I'd watch this show. Sounds like a 'hit' IMHO.

True Detective changed the verses used from Cohen's song "Nevermind" between episodes 1 and 2. Could this be a hint about the changing story line? I did this little sheet with the lyrics for the song and marked what was used in episode 1 and episode 2.

It really is a great show, and Nevermind works perfectly (though there are many people complaining about it, rather than listening to the words to see how it fits the show). After watching the last episode last night, I have to say the best thing about the series in my opinion was Leonard Cohen's Nevermind.
