the problem is the bacon
because it never crisps the way I like on a stove.
because I like to line up the strips straight on parchment,
put it in the oven where no one can see it bubble
and shrink into itself.
because you like to rip the bag open and toss
the whole damn thing into a pan.
because your foster Mother used to fry bread in the drippings.
because we don’t have enough insurance coverage
to make that a financially sound snack.
because I have traced the lines on your palm
to a time when you felt your heart crack
because she was so beautiful.
because you once said that I was your poem,
because even lies hold some type of truth,
because if I cooked it on the stove
it might pop up and burn me.
because of bacon
Re: because of bacon
What is this poem really about?
Superficially it seems to be about relationships and trust. What is it really about?
I was wondering if it was about a meeting of minds, or some kind of meet, anyway..

LOL, Scott... a line that Cate herself might have written [had you not thought of it first]

But I got it wrong. Should have been:
Because of a few poems,
Wherein I spoke of it's mystery,
Bacon has been especially kind...

Thanks Mat, what a great response poem.
I think bacon has been the downfall of many a vegetarian.

now, if I could just get the disturbing image, of laying Mr. Cohen down on a bed and covering his body with strips of bacon, out of my head.
