Astounding (or confounding) as it may be, certain members of the human species appear to have the capacity to execute profitable business ventures, while simultaneously manifesting sincere, caring, even loving (!!) feelings for another human being (even when that other human is the source, or partial source, of said profit). It is not yet known what percentage of the human species possess such capacity, therefore, this study warrants further investigation & will be continued for an, as yet, undetermined length of time.

Oh dear, so now we require a larger pedestal to hold both LC and Rob Hallett.

Lizzy, like some others, I am sorry but it appears you live your life by this forum and by whatever LC does. That does slant the way you talk of anyone, or indeed anything to do with Leonard Cohen. Anything said against that train of thought is attacked, indeed mocked, making it so shallow as to be ridiculous. I have no idea what experience in this bulging money racket called "the music industry" those of you have that praise the way LC was brought back to tour but you can be sure, if not Mr Hallett, there would have been for sure, someone else not too far behind. There are people in the business who all the time seek the next gravy train. For example, look at the programmes on TV bringing out the next big thing, soon to be forgotten whilst the next show grinds on to seek yet another new big thing...Pop Idol, X factor. One name, Simon Cowell doesn't worry who, or what he says, or harms on his way to making many millions, he is typical of those in the "music industry" he is not by a long way, a one off.

Thank Rob Hallett all you wish, that is not a problem, the problem lies in the way some are fawning over his reasons, almost appearing to believe he did it purely out of love for LC and believing no one else would have done it... that is so laughable!!
lizzytish, I took the word "cynical" directly from Mr Hallett's words. To use that against me is to deny Mr Hallett the same accusation by you.
As for these lines from you, in the words of John McEnroe, "you cannot be serious...."
We disagree on what "the reason" was... you feel it was strictly monetary. I don't... I feel deep admiration and caring for Leonard's financial dilemma were Rob's inspiration.........And he LOVED Leonard... and believed in him
I guess it all started for me sometime around Christmas 1967 and now, goodness me, it's.........2018 and over fifty years later.
No one ever listens to me. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record.

Oh for God's sake! No matter what his intentions were and I do believe they were primarily financial this proposition resulted in a win win for everyone.

Thank you Lizzytish for your wonderful comments, I am thankful what he did for all of "US" to bring L.C. back. So many of his Fans would have never had the opportunity to see him if it would not have been for Rob, he took a chance on him because he loved Leonard and he believed in him.. I wish Rob well in his new endeavor and I hope it includes Leonard again. I personally hope and pray that Leonard will perform again if his health allows it. He will see me in the front row.

Well, waiting to hear the singer-musician-songwriter's name to be said again. Ray LaMontaigne[?] Listening to an interview right now with someone making his way in the industry, speaking of the companies [RCA is his] and an employee from SONY just called to compliment him. Anyway, Ray was speaking of the industry companies about how they have a TOUGH job anymore, with so many things being free now, via the Internet... and how to make it all work since free downloading began, since they cannot hardly sell albums anymore, and he said he wishes they could. He's saying how hard "those guys" have to work to make it all happen, and how they [those at RCA] have treated him so well.

Plain and simple [to me] is that NOT everyone 'is' their profession. Should they abandon their profession out of their genuine love and respect for an old friend? Nope. If I needed an attorney, I'd rather pay my friend who is one. And certainly glad that Rob didn't just encourage Leonard on the side, but rather "put his money where his mouth is" and committed to accept all the risk and loss, if need be. If I were going to align with someone to further my lifelong career path and activities, I'd sure want it to be someone who TRULY BELIEVED in me than some guy on the payroll with a milk toast attitude.

We're all going to walk away from this with our own ideas and opinions. I've no idea why Rob left AEG. I only know how I feel and believe what his primary motivation in convincing Leonard to try it all again. And am SO glad that he put it to Leonard that if it didn't work out, he would absorb all the expenses, and that included if Leonard himself decided to opt out.

My personal bet is that if we don't see Rob related to Leonard professionally in the future, we'll see him in the audience and lobby at some future performances by Leonard 8) . That's just the way true friendship goes.

I could, of course, be proven wrong with ALL my beliefs here, but that's true with anything. Until then, I'd rather hold onto the ideals of hope and faith, and let cynicism go by the wayside. And ~ no matter what ~ a thank you permeated by with gratitude will remain in place for what Rob did for Leonard and for "US," as regensburg and others have noted.

You're welcome to feel as you do, Vicomte, and I'm sorry that you feel I'm using words 'against' you... however, since we're checking on the costs of benches to honour Leonard's 80th birthday, I guess it wouldn't hurt to inquire what a pedestal large enough to accommodate them both might run. ;-)

All the best,
Lizzie

Ever again people feel the urge to give us the education that the “music industry” is business and there is money made in it as crumbs of their wisdom to the unknowing crowd.

Of course it is – what´s wrong with that.

I wish Rob Hallet well. I have no reason not to do so.

I'd just like to say one thing (and I'm certainly not a liberalist!) :

The name of the tenth ox-herding picture is "Back to the Marketplace".

Hopefully we will be able to take part in that study again next year. Scientific research can be so rewarding ...

:) Yes, we have found it to be quite rewarding over the past several millenia, & we are glad to see that you recognize the scientific authenticity of this important study. We are also glad to know that you wish to continue your participation & we will be watching all of you very closely in the coming years.

Another scientific question that has had experts wondering for many a long year, is the distance people who truly believe themselves to be smart ar*es can stick their heads up their afore mentioned derriere.

Vicomte, my English is not as good as yours.
Would you please be so kind and specify what is meant by the string of characters "ar**es" you made use of in your last post ?

Thank you very much indeed !

While waiting for Vicomte´s own specification, Jean, my interpretation might please you: I think he means “liberalists”.
