Wake to the Sound of Rumi Playing the Drums

Post by Cate »

"But you have taught the heart to search itself in
simple ways, with broom and rag..."

L. Cohen

~~

Wake to the Sound of Rumi Playing the Drums

That thing that likes to dance inside of your chest,
is awake again. Find yourself in the kitchen
dancing to breakfast radio tunes as you boil and stir,
plate and toast. Hum to him. The thing that like to dance,
likes the rhythm of the mundane; the sound of a bag
falling into an empty cup, of water rushing over it,
the chime of a spoon. He leaves you to follow
a stream of milk, swills through the dark waters
where they branch and merge into something new.

Hi Cate.

I'm listening to a live version of Jeff Buckley singing 'If I Knew You.' That doesn't have much to do with anything, except that it's playing while I'm reading your poem, and it's making for a particularly sweet experience.

Who is he- your heart? And where did those lines of Leonard's come from? I particularly like being reminded to like the 'rhythm of the mundane.' Like, just making a cup of tea is enough.

Thanks for posting that :)

Hi Cate :D

Thank you, that's lovely.

Abby, those lines are from Book of Mercy, Psalm 44

I always like knowing what people are listening to, I don't know why - it's just nice. I'm currently sitting at a starbucks with a giant tea (Rufus Wainright is playing) - we've been without power for about 36 hours now but I'm not complaining as it's crazy beautiful out.

Thank you Judy!

I hope that both of you beautiful ladies have a wonderful holiday season!
