What I find refreshingly adolescent is this answer of Mr. Womac :
"leonard cohen could piss in the toilet bowl for three hours and he would say more than any other modern singers being tightly package to hit (...)"
I mean. If one speaks chinese to somebody that does not understand chinese and get the feed-back that this is silly, creasy, etc. etc. without obviously having given a second thought to the matter, then, one could be tempted to just reply to this with fake chinese language, just for laugh. What else to do when confronted to such a non-sense? Laugh, laugh, laugh. And laugh again.
What? I feel like if this critic just said to her (him?) self : I want to have a name as a very harsh critic to fear that good old Montréal's artistic community, they all will do in their pants just in the hearing of my name, OK, guys, let demolish the Montréal's Myth to begin with. Ha. Ha. (I have a lot of imagination, as you can see).
Banjo time.

Now, Lightning, you know I haven't demonstrated quite a knowledge of Leonard. That would be you
. I've demonstrated my appreciation of him, though. Dr. Freud could easily call this fixation. However, I feel Dr. Freud had a couple fixations of his own. Perhaps, the Christmas tree lights analogy would work with saying that Leonard is atop the tree, whilst others circle around it. Jacques Brel would be atop yours.
Since I'm rather sick at the moment, yet unable to sleep, that's about the best I can do. I do like, even love, some of the others' music. There's still just noone like Leonard for me. I can't help how I feel, nor do I want to change it.

Re: Spins review
Why is that song "terrible"? I very much enjoyed it. I sometimes listen to it on repeat.jarkko wrote: The record kicks off with a terrible, sax-laced adult contempo version of Lord Byron's Go No More a-Roving dedicated to Cohen's late best friend, Irving Layton.
I assume the question is rhetorical as no-one who contributes to this board finds any of Leonard's work "terrible." I'm glad you found some music to enjoy so much, hope you don't wear it out and continue to enjoy it. There are earlier folk versions of "Go No More A-Rovin" by Richard Dyer-Bennet and Joan Baez which are more conventionally pretty which you may also enjoy.
If you consider that "vagina" is Latin for "sheath", you will enjoy it even more.
