A Thousand Kisses Deep
A Thousand Kisses Deep
Last night I saw the Dublin born singer songwriter Christine Tobin perform a concert entitled "A Thousand Kisses Deep", in a tiny village hall deep in the border country of Devon/ Somerset (U.K.) to an intimate audience of no more than 60 Leonard Cohen fans.Christine performed seven or so LC songs, intermingled with those of Gershwin to John Martin, and a taste of her album "Sailing to Byzantium", her rendition of W.B. Yeats poems, which she has set to music, including "In Memory of Eva Gore-Booth and Constance Markievicz". Listening to it today, it is a wonderful reminder of the most atmospheric LC concert I have been to, which was at Lissadel. The album is amazing, Christine's voice is exquisite, with a faint Irish lilt and a deep timbre, her style is jazzy/folk often with a touch of Debussy. I look forward to her new album "A Thousand Kisses Deep" out in the spring, her interpretation is lively, refreshing, interesting and very different, but retains the essence of LC's poetry.

Re: A Thousand Kisses Deep
Thanks so much Lesley. Delighted you enjoyed the CD. I'm singing a programme of all Leonard Cohen songs at London's Southbank Centre, Purcell Room next Tuesday 19th of November as part of the London Jazz Festival. Christine x
