Like a bird on a wire,
I sit on this wall,
My phone in my hand,
As I wait for your call.
The moon and the stars,
Dissolve into space,
As I sift through my thoughts,
Trying to remember your face.
I wonder and wonder,
A million years,
Wishing your were here
To dry my tears.
The labyrinth of time,
Another on of space,
Where the needle is lost,
Where my tail I do chase
Where the mocking bird,
Is still singing his song,
Telling me I'm right,
Telling me I'm wrong.
Lonely despair,
Is pinned to the wall,
Where tears of the night,
And your dress did fall.
No more one
And no more two,
At the end of the line,
I'll be waiting for you.

Bird on a wire
Re: Bird on a wire
ever wonder why Leonard sings ' bird on the wire' and not 'bird on a wire' ?
Everything being said to you is true; Imagine of what it is true.
Re: Bird on a wire
Hi Jack ~
I thought you were around for the discussion we had about that.
My postulation was that when Leonard wrote the song, it was a specific [telephone, as I recall, but maybe electrical] wire outside his window... with a real bird or birds that sat on it.
After awhile, as new singers who sang covers of it came along, it became a generalized, non-specific wire.
So, Leonard's sticking with his original makes sense.
Good to see you here. Long time.

Re: Bird on a wire
Ness, these seem like lyrics, if so would the tune be to Bird on the Wire?
I think that I heard that as well Lizzie, that his catalyst for the song came from seeing a specific bird on a wire.
Wire also implies the idea of some type of transmitter as well, perhaps that is part of the 'the', when everything else is an 'a'. The bird is sitting right there on top of the wire, completely oblivious to all of the information flowing back and forth under his very own body - even if he did know he probably wouldn't understand it anyways.
