What's the word Leonard sings right before "church?" It isn't "empty."Goldin wrote: 4. Ain't No Cure for Love

Thank you! I wonder if he was referring to a specific ruined church in Pula or maybe the amphitheater itself?mnkyface wrote:"broken"HelenOE wrote:What's the word Leonard sings right before "church?" It isn't "empty."Goldin wrote: 4. Ain't No Cure for Love

Hi Helen,HelenOE wrote: I wonder if he was referring to a specific ruined church in Pula or maybe the amphitheater itself?
Leonard has been using "broken" instead of "empty" for most of the time he's been doing live concerts starting in 2008 and even before that on occasion.
He even used "lonely" one time for sure at Lyon in 2008.
As you're probably aware, he likes to change it up a bit ........ "the holy dove is never free" has now become "the holy dove is always free"

These facts also makes it interesting for the Picture Game

Oh, dear. I have not been listening closely enough. Thanks for the information.

My pleasure Helen,
it may not be every time since then but for sure it's many times - I haven't checked exactly how many, but I know who will know

One can remember Ghent 2010; that's what we read in Arlene's blog:B4real wrote:Leonard has been using "broken" instead of "empty" for most of the time he's been doing live concerts starting in 2008 and even before that on occasion.

On Saturday night, LC changed the original "empty church" and the more recent "broken church" to "ancient church". How fitting, in that historic Square.

After the lovely vacation in Pula in so lovely hotel Histria Plaza Pula we are now trying to go on living...
Pula amfitheater was a fantastic arena for Cohen concert! After gold war of cameras (too flammable securitypersons!!!!) we were enjoying the concert!
BUT something was different: LC was not as humoristic as for example in Brussels, where the concert was not a repetition of those others. In Brussels we could listen to French speaking smiling man, even new song, la Manic. In Berlin the whole band was still full of energy, but in Pula it could be clearly seen that they need a vacation, a break, deservedly!
We hope they will be full of life and we are still WAITING FOR THE MIRACLE TO COME at least tomorrow in Stockholm!!
Our pictures will be sent later!

Some more bits of beauty from our (Bela)Russian traveling company:
Pula was not just the first LC concert for Victoria Lebenok (thanks again to the initial ticket-holder, Wendy and Tom for an extra ticket!).
It was her first exposure to Leonard Cohen! Initially she join our company in order to visit Northern Italy and Croatia. Needless to say, this surprise concert became a fantastic experience for her.
So, here are some impressions from the very first three hours in the world of Leonard Cohen music and poetry:

DrHGuy has published a photo of a man with a plywood LC nearby the Pula Arena. I know nothing about that guy (not Doctor, another one). He must be a good fellow, as he has attended a Leonard Cohen concert. But frankly I prefer this image:

Ciaran, thank you for the photos, I could recognise me and my son at the fence
.
The soundcheck was great surprise for me, especially the long one in the evening but the shorter ones in both afternoon too and the fact that there were different songs (first of all Light as the breeze). We stayed in a flat just next to the Arena so when we heard the voice of LC in the window, we rushed down the stairs.
Fantastic scene, great audiance, heart-warming and unforgettable show.
Thank you Leonard!

(Yes, he looked a little tired, but there was extremely hot.)

Absolutely WONDERFUL photo! I KNOW how thrilled you two were... totally beside yourselves
I saw it in your video of Pula, too... I'm thinking I didn't include it in my comments, though
