Curmudgeon
We don’t talk about it over lunch,
a beer, or morning coffee, but at four
in the morning if the ipad has been
switched off, or there are no texts
to respond to, or emails that need
attending, we might sense a seismic
riff in the pre-dawn’s sonar shadows:
our children keening the hollowed
virtues visited upon them from
fathers and the careless generation.
Oh bless the continuous stutter
of the word being made into flesh
