A poem for my quiet mayor
A poem for my quiet mayor
Dear Rob Ford, it’s time to go.
Take your football and your pipe
your magnets and your straight blue flag
and scram.
Thank you for your number, and 5 cent savings
on bags … wait, I think I still pay for those.
Well thank you for…
thank you for, hummm …
I’ll get back to you on that.
We’ll miss you at Pride,
but don’t worry you’ll be mentioned
and finally your name will bring cheers!
Margaret Atwood, that library chick,
will miss you too. I’ll send you her picture
in case you want to say hi, if you see her on the
street. ... . ohhh, I remember now. Thank you
for offering to explain politics to any females
who might be interested in such a thing,
over a cup of coffee - your treat of course,
see I knew there was something.
Yes thank you and goodbye.
(I don't know how many other Toronto people are here - but man oh man did we land a dud mayor)

Re: A poem for my quiet mayor
WoW, Cate!
Well done in so many ways!!!
I keep looking at the Poetry section, but each unread posting I have has so many entries, I think "I don't have time right now, I'll catch up later." Yours with only 2 gave me the chance to 'break in' ~ thanks. Will share this with SOMEONE in our political group, if you don't mind! It's such a spot-on way to ridicule!

Of course Lizzy but can I ask that you scan with with your grammar/spelling eye first.
Fish - can you have a quick peek through for anything blatantly off.

some typos Cate and the rhythm is not quite there. in big hurry but here are typos - should be "your" straight, "Pride" "miss you too"
if I get time I will write you a Ballad of the Absent Mayor
Re: A poem for my quiet mayor
Thanks M. Fish, I don't mind my poems with messy hair and chocolate on their face while at the forum, but if they're going to go out I'd at least like them to have a clean shirt on. You're right about the rhythm - this poem would have some weird dance moves.
Lizzy,it's not nice to ridicule somebody that I know in my heart should be pitied (I think, no joking, that he needs help) but even people with issues can be giant jerks and I've strongly disliked this man for years.

Re: A poem for my quiet mayor
Well, he sounds more than a bit condescending and dismissive, as well.
I also know some politicians whom your poem would suit perfectly.
When someone's voted in to public office and they have issues that 'prevent' them from doing the job they were elected for, criticizing them is totally different than criticizing someone who merely has issues.

A Poem for the Absent Mayor
Say a prayer for the cowboy
Our Mayor has run away
Rob'd of dignity
His time has had its day
His mouth was in flood
and the brain cells awash
and the cursing break up
in the panic of loss.
And there's nothing to follow
There's nowhere to go
He's gone like a bummer
gone like the snow
Our Mayor has run away
Rob'd of dignity
His time has had its day
His mouth was in flood
and the brain cells awash
and the cursing break up
in the panic of loss.
And there's nothing to follow
There's nowhere to go
He's gone like a bummer
gone like the snow

Robby Robby Ford, it’s time to go.
Take your football and your pipe
Take your magnets, your straight blue flag
and scram, Man.
Thank you for your number,
the policies you chose
5 cents off on bags
howcomes I still pay for those.
Well thank you for…
thank you for...
(please fill in the gaps)
I’ll get back to you on that.
We’ll miss you at Pride,
but your name will get a shout
followed by the words "just get the fuck right out"
Now, Margaret Atwood, that library chick,
will miss you too. I’ll send you her pic
(feel free to greet
if you see her on the street).
ohhh, I remember Pal,
Ta to explain politics to
a mere female
as if she'd care
about such adult stuff
spends her days
dreaming of you in the buff
Anyway, sorry to see you retire
spoiling our plan
to set you on fire
Cate, great fun to write as it was a mere revision, getting the rhythm more fun, but not knowing what the hell I am writing about as I haven't had time to follow up about this guy. I am taking your word for all this defamation!
