Suzanne: 'he wrote it to summon her'

Post by Hartmut »

Cute. I had never heard/read that before.

Q: Is your mom Suzanne, the same Suzanne from the song?

Adam Cohen: My father actually wrote the song before meeting my mother, but says he wrote it to summon her.

Wonderful indeed  An advice from Leonard "Old Cool Cat" Cohen: you should probably write as many great poems dedicated to various female names, as possible, just in case.

Perhaps it should be made clear to newer forum members that that Suzanne Verdal (the dancer) who inspired the song was not the Suzanne who became the mother of Leonard's children (that was Suzanne Elrod). However, I like Leonard's imaginative take on this.

Yes, I think Adam was just being playful.

In this interview he mentions that he summoned her with that song:

So what Adam is telling is not a family inside joke.

Hi Hartmut,
I remember that and I watched the interview live as it was broadcast in 1985 on the Mike Walsh Show in Australia. 8)

(LC also explained the meaning of Dance Me To The End Of Love and sang the song as well)
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to B4real ~ me
