spring backwards and fall forward

Post by apple »

. i used to be able to write poems without much thought and they were good. the idea of losing an hour is disconcerting.

Spring forward, fall backwards - it's time to change the time.

I would spring forward to catch a pretty butterfly
And fall backwards to put space between myself and a snake

How does one remember to go forward or backwards?
Remember when we called flip flops – ‘thongs’ and we all wore them.
You could buy them at the drug store for 39 cents on sale.
We are backwards now to be paying up to a dollar for those slides of rubber.. a pair to match every color of shorts.
You cannot depend on the letter F. Fall forward would make no sense since we are losing time and Spring backwards - there is no making sense of that in that we gain time at that juncture.
I don’t know that that there is progress in thongs - they are so expensive now – sometime 2 dollars!
They are still not very springy shoes, either forwards or back and in my opinion fall short.

And did I mention I was in love with you?

I like it, especially as I love ambling narratives that seem to flow as an actual mind does - it makes it easy for me to feel hooked into the writer. I also like when the writer seems to address me like you did at the end.

Come off it,Cate. There is no hint that the love expressed was for you. It could have been for me, or even Lizzie. I don't want to fall out about this but we just might and I'd like that very much.

Of course it’s to me!
I am ‘you’.
In fact I have entire bookshelves of books written specifically to me.
Some of my favourite ones (I won’t tell you my actual favourite - that’s a secret) are from Pabolo Neurdo. He has very romantic tendencies and often addresses me directly … if he wasn’t dead, I would consider running away with him. Not to make you jealous but even Leonard Cohen sometimes writes to me.

perhaps you interpret 'you' as you instead of me. I guess I can see that - maybe it’s a matter of interpretation and perhaps you're sometimes even right (though obviously I am the you in the poem above)

<clip cookie statement of poor humour ... there is great value in silence>

apple I'm being silly with fish but I'm very sincere with liking how the poem seems to address the reader directly - these are the poems I tend to come back to because I really can imagine that the Narrator is speaking to me.

Cate, can we please keep soccer out of this. you are lowering the tone. btw do you have any intimate family photos of you humping any animal statues? I would love to look at them in strict confidence before sharing them with all my friends, casual acquaintances, co-workers, transport staff etc
