So Long Marianne in translation

Hi all,

Norwegian radio journalist Kari Hesthamar wrote a book in 2008 called So Long Marianne which tells the story of Marianne Ihlen and her relationship with Leonard Cohen in Hydra, and elsewhere, in the 1960s. This book has not yet been translated into English but the ‘rights’ are still available and a translation can be arranged. Is there any animo on this site, and a small financial commitment, to see this project off the ground? I am quite ahppy to do the donkey work.

I still have this one on my "wanted" list and would probably buy it, even if it's the Norwegian version but I would DEFINITELY buy the English version!

sceachgeal....I would also be willing to contribute. I doubt her publishers realize the number of English translations that would be purchased. Marianne, although still a lovely lady, has attained somewhat mythical status because of the early LC years, and there were many. She was not only a stunning woman, but she was also obviously LC's muse for many of his earlier songs and poetry, and still touches his life today. I remain hopeful they will consider an English translation...fingers crossed and all that.

There are lots of photos of Marianne & Leonard when they used to live on the island.
Many of them have actual comments by Marianne Ihlen herself. Under a photo of Marianne at Douskos tavern in 1960 there is her comment on the English version of the book:

Marianne Ihlen - Its not my book. Kari met me and we talked and talked. Past is Past dont care about the future. Its here and now. Ok the english version of Karis book will be out Autumn 2013 in Toronto.

The English edition of Marianne's books will be out on June 1, 2014!
