Perhaps, you live in a different economy than they, or have different financial needs.
Some people sacrifice in such times.
Not you, though, nope... sod that
[They still also may not like Leonard's music, too... you know there are a few creatures such as that out there ... don't ask me about that, though... there's no accounting for taste.]
lizzie, let me explain something. in our local newspaper there is a regular column called '20 questions'. it gives a short biographical outline of a local personality currently in the news, and then they are asked 20 questions. what book are they reading, which film did they see last, who did they vote for, stuff like that - it takes up a whole page. what i do is go straight to the question about what music they like best. if they don't answer bob dylan or leonard cohen i go immediately to the cartoons page because i am not interested in anything else about them. i just don't want to know. maybe if they answer pink floyd or cat stevens i might, if i am in a good mood, scan very quickly over their answers, but usually i can't be bothered. look at this picture below that i took in bergen. it shows photographers and audience clamouring for a glimpse of leonard cohen. everyone wants to see him, except one person. he doesn't WANT to see him; i can tell by his body language, the nonchalant countenance expressed in his physical appearance. if it was donovan on the stage, tom waits or simon and garfunkel, i could understand it. why, even i could happily sit there with my back towards them - but this is LEONARD COHEN, and i don't swallow the argument that they do it for money. they do it because it suits their personalities. there are great differencies in peoples' qualities. some people are really lovely. they have class, finesse, they are cultured and refined. others can be awful lowlife creatures who have never read a book in their lives and who usually have tattoos.
He's got a lot of responsibility that young man... especially with all those professional photographers vying for the best shot... the quintessential one that will 'make' the article it will be attached to. Still, though he appears dramatically disinterested, I can't buy it. Not enough information to go on, looking at a man being paid to protect performers from the maddening crowd and rabid fans. A young man doing his job. Not exactly the best time for making judgements about him. And think of all the people he's gotten to HEAR ~ LIVE... LEONARD COHEN for one; perhaps, Bob Dylan for another!
I'd be less interested in that profiled celeb, based on their musical tastes; but, if I saw something else that appealed to me, I'd look for evidence that he could like Leonard. It is a great acid test, I know, but not enough to throw the baby out with the bath water. Though, I did make it clear to one man pursuing me that it was accept my listening to Leonard or forget it. And, then, I was the one who forgot it... based on other things. But that's the personal realm, not the reading newspapers or doing your job stuff.
I think that young man just needs a good grandfather; one with great taste who can show him the ropes of life; someone who can introduce him properly to what's good; someone who can help him find a job where he can earn the big bucks it takes to get him where he can see Leonard's face at a concert, instead of schlepping in to listen through his low paying job with benefits; someone whose name begins with a g.

Pretty garbled on the sound, but does this make you feel at ALL better, g? Granted it's the sound check and they're still not looking at Leonard, but it seems we may be getting closer.
