Whoa   ! You're suggesting that NEHOC's barbs are actually directed at me? I would have had to have seen/known Critic2's inventory of poetry, and then conspired to lend the choice of topic to support one in particular. Or, C2 would have had to write me on the side and say, "Hey, I have a poem that would be great, if you choose 'seedy hotel' as a theme!"

Believe it or not, I'm fully capable of making my own, clear, unfettered, uninfluenced choices for a theme ~ even though I had three possibilities aligned, with seedy hotel having been my first thought, I did pass them by Laurie. When she felt seedy hotel to be the best, I went with my first instinct. Choosing a Leonardesque theme opens up a plethora of possibilities, so I stopped it at the three, in the interest of 'getting on' with the contest. However, I can tell you what prompted my instinct. Leonard's comment regarding seedy hotels was made in the first article I'd ever seen on him. From many years ago. I still have it [most of it :? ~ it seems to be lacking the end page  ]. It's from Look magazine, which I don't believe even exists anymore. The photo of Leonard is sublime ~ he's sitting in front of and beneath the crook of a tree, and looking straight into the camera with a serious expression. He's wearing a black jacket, and maybe a white shirt beneath, as I'm recalling. It was probably a black suit. With me, the clothing is always secondary to the face. It's somewhere around here, the photo. I've seen it since. However, it was and still is very impacting when I look at it.

What you're suggesting, however, does implicate me, Makera. There's no way around that. With the way you've constructed and construed NEHOC's position with all of this, however, I see fiction in your future  .

Especially one you refused to enter, so its outcomes weren't even [truly] relevant to you  .

Lizzy? :?

Didn't you read my post? I said:
I personally don't believe you would have knowingly aided anyone's deceit, if there were any. I know you would not play such games.
Which is what I told NEHOC when he PMed me with his suspicions!!

Also note I said 'if there were any' deceit. I'm not convinced there was anyway. I just gave you the 'heads up' on what he was suggesting so you could debunk it! Which you did very clearly. Thank you for confirming my defence of you. :D

It's impossible to implicate one without the other. One drove. The other had the gun. Well, I guess some people just live on suspicions.....I thought Switzerland's neutrality was perfectly fine, but it seems others had suspicions on my choice of that  !

So, NEHOC entered, too  ?

Makera~
I think what NEHOC is getting at, that seems to bother him, is the apparent 'coincidence' between the choice of 'theme/subject' and the convenient (probably prewritten) poem entered by the one who triggered the contest idea in the first place. He is presumably questioning the source of your idea for the "Seedy Hotel" subject.
This is how rumors get started. I chose this from lizzy's list. The other 2 i thought were gender biased.

Whatever your's and nehoc's intended goal, the bottomline is that you two are the most negative forces on this board.

Most folks are thoroughly sick of your (combined) antics.

Now you have recruited a pal from the WOW (allpoetry) site and brought even More negative ugliness.

C2 has managed to stay very funny, very focused and very patient if you ask me. You and nehoc are just the opposite. And trying to drag everyone into the cesspool.

And no, i am not pm'ing c2 nor he me regarding this matter. Unilateral decision....just like the Very Fun Poetry Contest you hate so much.

Like Charles so brillianty put it (i will paraphrase) Stop This!

cheers,
Laurie

Laurie ~

Excuse me? I was just trying to END the spiral of "rumors" you refer to by clarifying the cause in order for it to be "stopped"!

So, this begs the question: why do you wish to continue it by negative presumptions and attacks on me?

1) I only answered a PM I received to defend someone's integrity! There are NO "antics" from me, nor "combined".

2) I have not "recruited" anyone from anywhere, nor would I need to. What people who know me, and witnessed what C2 did, may choose to do is their own business!

Something is only "funny" if it is said or done by the 'approved ones'? :?

To quote another poetic friend, "If you want to know someone, watch what they do."

The truth is the truth, and I've stated it clearly. I can't help what others choose to believe.

Thank goodness there is a sort of 'paper-trail' around these parts.

I think in cyberland if you want to know someone, read what they write.

Yes! Only in proper context, and with real knowledge of the
circumstances and actions, of course.

I entered the contest and got an honorable mention even though I know it's not very good. What I don't understand is why so many are praising Critic2. He is the reason I almost didn't enter the contest. Has everyone forgotton how mean he has been to other posters? Has everyone forgotton how he treated Else? Look back at his profile and read his posts from the beginning. He has treated people horribley. Now suddenly people are saying what a great guy he really is. Why? Because he started making up to people? And flattering them? I think he is laughing at all of us. Now he pretends that everything he ever wrote about other poets was just in fun. But that is not true he was unkind. Go back and read.

Hi IAMAHOTEL~

I'm glad you decided to enter the contest.

I totally understand your feelings towards C2. But, think in the big scheme of things, he has redeemed himself through humor and through some well thought out (recent) critiques. Despite the thorns, he does know what he is talking about when it comes to poetry. His methods can be really ugly at times...for that, there is no excuse.

When he layed into Else, i thought he had gone too far. I let him know this privately. I don't remember if i publicly joined in the flogging or not.

I think some of the banter between C2 and a few others can be misconstrued.

You are right, he has been a real cad at times. Others hilariously funny and right on.

I don't mean to try to sway your opinion. I just want to try to put into perspective why some of us are not chastising C2.

regards,
Laurie

Thank you for your post Laurie. I do not write great poetry. I don't even write good poetry but I also do not think that Crtic2 is master of the genre either. I do not think he is spot-on with his critiques. And almost everyone here thought the same. Until the contest. I could stomach his new niceness if he would apoligize to all the posters he so viciously ridiculed before the contest. I am not impressed that he deletes posts.
A poor analogy for you. Suppose a man killed several people and then spent a few days doing stand-up comedy. Would we say "What a great guy, he's so funny"? Critic2 metaphorically killed many posters and now he makes a few jokes. This makes him wonderful? I do not think he has now "redeemed" himself. I do not think he is now a flower with a few thorns. Perhaps because of your friendship with Critic2 and your personal correspondence with him you think differently. But all the rest of us have is what he has written publically since he joined.

Hi IAMAHOTEL

I do not have "friendship" or "personal relationship" with C2.

I told you i understood (and still do) your opinion.

What i wrote was an attempt to explain what you were questioning, from my personal perspective.
What I don't understand is why so many are praising Critic2.
Frankly, there are a couple of others around here that are meaner and more negative (i think) than c2 ever was.

Like i said earlier, i was not trying to change your opinion. You asked a question, i tried to answer.

regards,
L
