POEM #13
Brown Hotel
The race is run,
The adieu’s are done,
At last I have arrived,
Decked out with flowers
And kind speeches,
A penny on each eye,
It’s a very, very brown hotel,
My pearl of great price,
The man behind the bars
Is called Ahithophel,
And he’s giving sound advice,
"The elevator is broken
You’ll have to take the stairs,
But since God is Wholly Other
They won’t lead to anywhere,
The doors all are numbered
Your days are numbered too,
But they’ll start up again --
Just as you get through,
You’ll be very, very happy here,
Your room is in the attic,
The television’s got six hundred
Channels – but all you’ll get is static,
Ah, your neighbor must be cooking,
(Sweet smell of cabbages and fear)
I’m afraid the windows do not open,
We can’t have any jumping here,
Look out at that view!
What an indelible scene –
What Delectable Mountains,
What a Great Gulf between,
Steady now,
Don’t look down
And you won’t fall, --
Just ignore that Hand
that’s writing on the wall"
So he leads me by the arm,
He puts me in my place,
He hands to me a mirror,
So I can see my face,
King of All that I Survey,
The Captain of my Soul,
My feet are made of clay,
My head is made of gold,
The Grand Inquisitor is coming,
There are spiders in my bath,
Now that everything’s permitted,
He’s sure to make me laugh.

POEM #15
Magnus Opus
I have lost my soul
the whole of my soul
in this hole
of an hotel
it’s hell
although it has a lovely bell
where is the Love?
ooh, I’ve dropped my glove
I must make a start
to repairing my heart
I can walk
and I can talk
I hope I never stalk!!!
I’m feeling down today
won’t you come and play
hey hey hey
Boo Hoo Mr Doo
I'm colored blue
I love you

POEM #18
"Untitled"
Lie with me in this seedy hotel
let the world pass by the broken windows.
Here’s the test of our love
no silk sheets
no room service
no comforts to turn your eyes away from mine
as I search for certainty.
Will we ever again have reservations
in this seedy hotel ?
POEM #19
Lucky Thirteen
On the thirteenth floor
I made love to a small, drugged, whore
To the sounds of Leonard Cohen
The rooms were dirty and brown
No majesty in this new town
And the river was glutted down
Through drugs we had sex
She had placed on me a hex
In the elevator, we often shared, late at night
She desired a man called Kriss
I gave her a passonite kiss
Come to my room, everything is allright
She was more famous than me
At least my soul was more free
As she gave me tea and oranges, in the room
Twilight and gloom, fusions and I did assume
To be her broken sparrow and groom
The rest is spoken history and concert, cigarette fumes
POEM #20
Winging It
sat down with my lover
who has a monopoly of my affection
we played for hours
acquiring toy wealth
and as the hours passed
with the game poised
between jail and riches
our budgie got impatient
for his dinner
and in an act of bird-brained revenge
spilt the contents of his cage
all over the board
leaving me
with a seedy hotel
POEM #21
Seed of Life
In later years
I have stayed
in the seediest hotels
where ladies have clung to me
out of respect
for my age
and loved me
without disclosing
who they really think I am.
POEM #22
at the 110 motel
lithe [insert: sarcasm] tile floors scrubbed with CLR (on her hands and knees)
orgasms enshrined by ghostly voices (in her ears)
used condoms in the bathroom (need a pair of gloves)
maria sanchez cries,
"i quit this fucking job" (stroking her crucifix)
POEM #23
Remember We Are All His Children
Come live in G-d’s Hotel
No. 1 Heaven’s Road
Welcome to the Poor and Needy
Where the Wine is wet
and the Bread is seedy
POEM #24
He ditched his wife he left his kids he kissed the dog goodbye
He trashed the house he wrecked the lawn he smashed the window panes.
He grabbed his case, he grabbed his keys he took his mobile phone.
He drove the car and hit the kerb and screeched off down the road.
He pulled into a parking bay affront “the Rio Grande”.
The Rio has seen better days it was a sad demise.
The peeling paint, the battered floor, the cobwebs on the doors.
The sleazy dressed receptionist flicked ash upon the floor.
The Rio Grande a home from home a rep upon the road.
POEM #25
50 dollars a night.
..................................
Who would stay in a dump like this
50 dollars a night and it smells like piss
I lay on the bed
My body feels stiff
I pull back the sheets
Pooh what a whiff
50 dollars a night
And this place is crap
Not even someewhere
Youuuuu would take a nap
Can't sleep a wink
'Cos there is a stink
50 dollars a night
It should be free
ohhhhhhh there's nowhere to take a pee.
THE END.
POEM #26
this is a hotel
not clean or nice
I have a drink
but where is the ice?
when I was small
I always wanted
to have a place to hang my head
which I could call
My Own
But I don't
