As you can see, Leonard's rare 2004 New York mugs are distinctly different from those otherwise on sale at his concerts. I just thought those 'completists' amongst you should be made aware of this fact.

well, that is good to hear, lizzie. i am not fanatical either. the new york one was sent to me as a surprise gift, and i bought the other at a concert. however, for a very good reason i drink from neither one of them. not because i wish to keep them in pristine condition, but because of the deadly poison.

Right... I remember discovering that on the bottom. and that did it for me, as well. It's wonderful to have and to look at and I've yet to fill it with pens or anything else. Happy to see you have both [I ended up with both, too .]

It's strange, the whole affair, Lizzie. Why would anyone sell cups from which it be dangerous to drink? It makes me remember the deliciously-looking but toxic apple given to Snow White by the evil queen. Leonard has many times focused upon infant mortality ("a baby stillborn" - from 'Bird on the wire', "100 doctors to kill an unborn child" - from 'Diamonds in the mine', "I need you to kill a child" - from 'You know who I am', etc.), so it's particularly ironic that a product bearing his name should be harmful to the fetus. What is the background to this story? Why did someone in China want to hurt Leonard's pregnant fans?

Lead and/or cadmium, and whatever those other chemicals are don't do any good for adults, either.
I was baffled the same as you; as in how could this even happen!?!
Obviously, China forgot to mention it... and it could not have occurred to whoever ordered them to ask if they could be drunk from!
It would be rather presumed to be a given, would it not?
I have other mugs with that gold on them, but the only prohibition is microwaving them... but NOT being able to drink from them.
Was so disappointed.

well, it's obvious to me that some slant-eyed little deviant working in a shanghai cup factory is at the back of it, because i am pretty sure leonard is innocent of being involved in such a dastardly act.

This is very interesting. I didn't see that warning at the bottom of my 2008 cup, & I was drinking from it for about 2 years, at which point a flying knife in the kitchen sink broke the handle off! (the knife had accidentally fallen into the garbage disposal in the sink, & the garbage disposal flung it, forcefully, back out - & it hit nothing else but the handle of that cup). Though there are ways to glue it back on, I decided to not use it for drinking anymore, & to just leave it on the kitchen counter (with the broken handle inside the cup), so that I can see it & admire its beauty. And now I find out that its not safe for drinking. . .how serendipitous. Can't help wondering if some kind of benevolent force acted to save me from (further) harm. . .
