I've always thought that if Vincent Price hadn't performed the haunting, spoken word ending of Michael Jackson's Thriller, Leonard Cohen would have been a good second choice. His voice would have been perfect for that part.
Darkness Falls Across The Land
The Midnite Hour Is Close At Hand
Creatures Crawl In Search Of Blood
To Terrorize Y'awl's Neighbourhood
And Whosoever Shall Be Found
Without The Soul For Getting Down
Must Stand And Face The Hounds Of Hell
And Rot Inside A Corpse's Shell
The Foulest Stench Is In The Air
The Funk Of Forty Thousand Years
And Grizzy Ghouls From Every Tomb
Are Closing In To Seal Your Doom
And Though You Fight To Stay Alive
Your Body Starts To Shiver
For No Mere Mortal Can Resist
The Evil Of The Thriller
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!

Vincent Price also lended his perfectly spooky voice on "Black Widow" for Alice Cooper's Welcome To My Nightmare album!
Can you imagine Leonard saying what Vincent said in this song -
"Leaving lepidoptera - please, don't touch the display, little boy, aha cute! Moving to the next aisle we have arachnida, the spiders, our...finest collection. This friendly little devil is the heptothilidi, unfortunately harmless. Next to him, the nasty licosa raptoria, his tiny fangs cause creeping ulcerations of the skin *laugh*. And here, my prize, the Black Widow. Isn't she lovely?.. and so deadly. Her kiss is fifteen times as poisonous as that of the rattlesnake. You see her venom is highly neurotoxic, which is to say that it attacks the central nervous system causing intense pain, profuse sweating, difficulty in breathing, loss of consciousness, violent convulsions and, finally...death. You know what I think I love the most about her is her inborn need to dominate, possess. In fact, immediately after the consummation of her marriage to the smaller and weaker male of the species she kills and eats him - *laugh* oh, she is delicious...and I hope he was! Such power and dignity - unhampered by sentiment. If I may put forward a slice of personal philosophy, I feel that man has ruled this world as a stumbling demented child-king long enough! And as his empire crumbles, my precious Black Widow shall rise as his most fitting successor!"
Speaking of Vincent Price, do you remember - since you're from Canada - that show "The Hilarious House of Frightenstein"? He had a bit part on that show too. Ahhhh, if only they could put that on DVD.

Hi Sophitikitten ~
Yes, I can imagine Leonard speaking that, particularly with a recording of a dedication, tribute album to Charlie Mingus, wherein Leonard recites the poem, "The Chill of Death." If you'll remind me, say a month from now [after I get caught up on my other promises
], I'll be happy to make a copy of it for you. Some have listened to it and found it to be "unnerving," due to how 'into it' Leonard seems to get. In any case, it is serious and intense.

No, Hilarious House of Frightenstein was hosted by Billy Van. It was a children's show but certainly had more adult type humour.
