A Good Biography of Leonard Cohen

Post by GraceC »

Forgive me if this subject has been addressed here. If it has, I couldn't find the thread. I am wondering if anyone has read a good biography of Mr. Cohen. I found a couple mentioned at Amazon but the reviews were poor. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I would suggest Various Positions: A Life of LC by Ira Nadel. I thought that it was enjoyable and informative, and certainly the best of the few bios that I've read.

I also really enjoyed a book called The Song of Leonard Cohen by Harry Rasky. Rasky was a film-maker who made a film of Leonard in 1979, and this book recounts some of the discussions he had with Leonard, and provides a more personal look at LC than a bio might.

Enjoy whatever you get!

Hi Grace,

"Various Positions" by Ira Nadel is my personal favourite so far, but I'm very much looking forward to Sylvie Simmon's new biography, which is being published later this year:

All good things, John E
