Draw'n
Draw'n
We do the things we do
As we are drawn to them
And thus extruded
We are shaped
Our shape
And our extrusion
Was done to us
And so we do what we do
Before and beyond extrusion
I am
And being what I do;
...I draw

Re: Draw'n
It's to bad we can't centre here - you have a nice shape happening
I enjoyed this Mat. I like the circular aspect of it.
came back
here, I hope you don't mind.

Re: Draw'n
Thanks Cate,
I think the visual aspect of centering it works a treat.
It seems "extruded"; and I suppose this is what you were alluding to.
Thanks for the creative input.

I like the feminine shape of the result, as well.

Re: Draw'n
Yes, the visual shape of the piece was matching what I was reading. I said circular but really meant spiral [a soft spinning feeling] each turn seems to bring you closer to something. It was interesting, in a good way.
Re: Draw'n
yeah, that's how I took it, plus the length of the lines seems to correlate well to their content, as well.
"spiral [a soft spinning feeling]" I hadn't picked up on in just that way, but did like how it floated down to its gentle conclusion.

Re: Draw'n
I'm considering this simple adjustment.
Draw'n
We do the things we do
As we are drawn to them
And thus extruded
We are shaped
or
Our shape
And our extrusion
Was done to us
And so we do what we do
yet
Before and beyond extrusion
I am
And being what I do;
...I'm draw'n...

"The URL contained a Malformed video... Sorry" ~ LOL ~ ironic, given the basic topic of your poem

Hi Lizzy and Cate,
a little about "content" below.
My poem above...it is the old nature/nurture spin/question.
"This drunkenness begun in some other Tavern
...Who-ever brought me here
will have to take me home."
Rumi, Coleman Barks and Adrienne Shamzad; drunk divine.

This clip/video above relates to the attitude of the first verse of my poem above; perhaps written omnicontemporaneously
I'll leave verses 2 and 3 for the reader to work out, if they are interested.

Re: Draw'n
hi mat ~
thanks for that...
i saw coleman recite some of rumi's poetry and speak about him, as well. his voice really has a vehicle nature to it that imparts the ancient mystery of rumi's words. unfortunately, in this video, that doesn't come through, as well. it feels he's having to compete with the beautiful guitarist, whose playing is too loud, twangy, and jarring, with her movements distracting, as well. [i know, complain, complain]. when i saw him, there were three musicians, who played with such perfect and befitting accompaniment that i presumed they traveled there together. nope. but, their playing was very soft, very subtle, and with many spaces in it. ancient feeling in itself. the performance was wholly intoxicating. you would have loved it. loved it.
how is bernard? please tell him i said hi and that i miss his expansive expressions.

I like that. He's quite musical isn't he.

. my thoughts - Stanza one and two seem like the nature vs. nurture question as you’ve said. Stanza one may be suggesting a blueprint from before this world – stanza two, our experiences shape us. Stanza three I think goes back to stanza one but a bit deeper – beyond genes, beyond what is learned to a you that is and always was (body, mind and spirit perhaps).I'll leave verses 2 and 3 for the reader to work out, if they are interested
