Listening to Terry Wogan on Radio 2 today, there was an American country guy - can't remember his name - and they were talking about Englebert Humperdink
representing GB for the European song contest, how old he was , 75, how wonderful he was still to be singing.
The guy then went on to say 'Well what about the other guy who still tours and sings',
He had trouble remembering his name and he was umming and ahring trying to think of the name. I was waiting for him to remember,
LEONARD COHEN - LEONARD COHEN I am shouting at the radio.
Then he said Tony Bennet.
Poor Leonard, all that touring, all that work all those wonderful words and music, but the only person the guy could think of over 75 still working was Tony Bennet.
Strange, isn't it?

Hi Lightasabreeze,
Heard an interview with Tony Bennett about a month or so back (a good one). The host said this or
something similar, "Leonard Cohen is just a kid compared to Tony Bennett." Rather liked what he said.

Tony Bennett is 85. Leonard is 78.
Indeed, in the same month when Leonard published Old Ideas and went into the top charts, and there was talk about his age and that editorial about old artisets having integrity, Tony Bennett had his duets album (and single with the late Amy Winehouse) in top charts as well. So Leonard is one of the oldest around, but Tony Bennett is older:)
Not to mention that Johnny Cash would celebrate his 80th birthday last week. Leonard was on tour at age when Cash has been fighting to sing thru his later American albums. In some complaints against Leonard's voice and singing, people tend to forget that fact.

Re: Strange, isn't it?
I well know the age of Tony Bennet and indeed the late Johnny Cash, but neither of them did such a long and widespread tour in their middle 70's, or did they ever give concerts as long. Most artists young or old, male or female ever give concerts as long as Leonard, who gives us well over 3 hours and more.

But on the other side, maybe he did it! In today's Guardian news, Michael Jackson back catalogue allegedly stolen by hackers, at http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/ma ... MUSIMG9382. the first mentioned Sony artist is... Leonard Cohen. Good job for an artist Sony didn't know they have it on their catalogue in the 80s...
Sony Music is home to a string of major artists, including Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Foo Fighters and Avril Lavigne, and also distributes the music of Jimi Hendrix.
Its catalogue features what it calls "some of the most important recordings in history".

Re: Strange, isn't it?
Well, Leonard did send them letter of thanks for the all costs they had for his albums' promotion... and included one dollar bill in the envelope!
