WHAT TO HEAR AT NEXT COHEN’S TOUR?

Post by dreamermusic »

After two years singing more or less the same songs, I suppose Leonard will change a bit next time. Why don't we try to give him a certain idea of what we would like to hear? He can have a look at the most repeated songs in this thread. Each of you who would like to participate, please, make a complete set-list of the perfect or ideal concert you would like to attend (though during some concerts last tour he has sung 30 songs at some shows, not more than 28 songs, please, don't make him too tired ;-) . And as one of the members of this forum said at another thread...Leonard, "I know you have to charge me, but could you charge me less?"

During his next tour, I would like to attend to the following concert:

FIRST PART

1.DANCE ME TO THE END OF LOVE (A classic warm up for Len and his band to begin the show getting confidence).
2.GOING HOME
3.BIRD ON THE WIRE
4.THE FAITH
5.CHELSEA HOTEL
6.LULLABY
7.BORN IN CHAINS
8.DARKNESS
9.IN MY SECRET LIFE
10.ANTHEM

SECOND PART

11.CRAZY TO LOVE YOU (Leonard Solo)
12.SUZANNE (Leonard Solo)
13.HEY, THAT’S NO WAY TO SAY GOODBYE (One of my all-times best favourites)
14.DIFFERENT SIDES
15.THANKS FOR THE DANCE
16.A THOUSAND KISSES DEEP (the song, not recited)
17.AMEN
18.ALEXANDRA LEAVING (One of my best favourites)
19.FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT (One of my all-times best favourites)
20.TAKE THIS WALTZ

1ST ENCORE

21.HALLELUJAH
22.ONE OF US CANNOT BE WRONG
23.JOAN OF ARC

2ND ENCORE

24.FIRST, WE TAKE MANHATTAN
25.SO LONG MARIANNE (One of my all-times best favourites)
26.CLOSING TIME

3RD ENCORE

27.MEMORIES
28.DO I HAVE TO SING ALL NIGHT?
Instead of saying to us "I Tried to Leave You" when trying to finish the concert he can sing "Do I have to Dance All Night?" changing "dance" for "sing")
-Madrid 1993 (standing up face to face to Leonard, leaning my arms upon the stage (no cams, no security line), my hands touched Cohen's feet!) (talked to Cohen for 20 minutes after concert!!!)
-Lisbon 2009 (1st row!!)
-Madrid 2012 (1st row centred facing Leonard!!)
-FOREVER

Would you not love to hear Story of Isaac after all this time?
Really don't care as long as I get to see him one more time, but of course Marianne would have to be included :) :) :)

May I be the first to say that "Sisters of Mercy" should definitely be included! "Going Home" and "Show Me the Place" are also requirements. Some newer songs could suitably replace ones that we are familiar with - "Amen" replacing "I'm Your Man", "Come Healing" replacing "Hallelujah" and "Different Sides" replacing "Closing Time". I'd personally like to hear "Born in Chains", "The Darkness" and "Feels So Good" live as I didn't get to see any Leonard concerts outside of the U.K. Otherwise, I'm not too fussy, as I've had the good fortune to hear Leonard sing almost every other song that he has ever sung live. However, in the unlikely event that he feels like singing them again, it would be good to hear "I Can't Forget", "Coming Back to You", "The Window" and "Ballad of the Absent Mare" (plus possibly "A Bunch of Lonesome Heroes").

I'd love to hear live One of us Cannot be Wrong and it is top of my wish list should Leonard tour again. Would also love to be at a concert where Night Comes On is performed. From the new album Different Sides tops the list. Of course for me no night would be complete without Hallelujah and So Long Marianne. Trying to choose a full set list would be impossible for me though and it could end up being a very long night for Leonard and co

While I love the Webb Sisters' version, I'd give anything to hear Leonard sing If It Be Your Will...

Glad to see John E mention "Ballad of the Absent Mare" ~ I was convinced nobody else would want to hear this..... but the floodgates are open now.... Can I add "Take This Longing" too. And also to note that I intend to go to more than one so some changes night to night and shorter set lists ~ Perhaps The Webb Srs or Sharon could have spots? I could do my impression of Sylvia Plath reciting Daddy if you like Leonard. You can't tell it's not her if you're not looking at me!! Alternatively can you find a support spot for the poet Simon Armitage (If only for the British leg) . Ta xx

Instead of suggesting full set lists that are likely to be unachievable wishes, why not suggest ONE older song not played during the recent World Tour and ONE from "Old Ideas".
Maybe collate the numbers at a future date (June 30?) and then vote again on the top 5 in each category.
My chosen songs are "The Captain" - I'd love to hear Neil on piano for that one, and "Come Healing".
If the numbers are small someone of importance may take notice!

Nonetheless I just want LC to tour again, no matter what he sings, as long as Australia is on the itinerary.

There was once an Elvis Costello tour where there was a big roulette wheel which listed dozens of songs. It would spin and wherever it fell he would play that song. LC could adopt this method. Or perhaps respond to audience polls. Or maybe even requests. At Manchester Apollo 1995 Dylan responded to a request for "Under The Red Sky" from me.... and once at Leeds Town & Country Chrissie Hynde did the same and gave me her tambourine.

I'm so happy just to listen to whatever Leonard decides to play.

It is just as well his shows have been 3-4 hours because it means I've been able to hear him perform most of my 'must have in a concert' songs.

The only way I would be able to hear more of my favourites would be if he was willing to play for even longer - and that is totally unrealistic!

(I haven't been at all unhappy with his choices so far - I've loved every minute of the shows).

Note: even with a MUCH MUCH longer show there would still be 'absolute favourites' that wouldn't be able to be fitted into the playlist :D

There are so many treasures.
