One-Off (Xmas Turkey)
One-Off (Xmas Turkey)
I ate meat
After nearly two whole years
A whole plate of Christmas turkey meat
Brown and white
Free Range
Next day my body just rebelled
Felt like a post-war zone
A wounded combatant
Consuming itself
Flesh eating fowl eating flesh
An animal
A cannibal
This must be
How all carnivores feel
Unknowingly

oh that's not a nice holiday, but a whole plate - dear lord man!
They say that when going back to eating meat you should start slow, let the natural enzymes in your stomach build up again ... or maybe just stick with fish.

Thanks for the comment! Yes, I'm sticking with fish now!
I was accompanying my father for Xmas lunch. He is 87 and a life long meat-eater. I felt I was honouring him somehow, eating together ... but paid a little price.
Reminds me .. when I was about 15, and playing "Sing Another Song, Boys" on the record player, Dad came into my room. He protested that "this guy cannot sing!".
Now ... 40 years later ... Dad LOVES "10 New Songs"!!

I think I know my gender, thank you. why would she declare her love for me, fish, if she was a he! that is an offence even in your beloved USA.
Re: One-Off (Xmas Turkey)
I don't know for sure fish but she said her name was Richard.
dear Fish - I am making spicy tuna melts with swiss cheese for lunch - why don't you pop over and join us

thanks, but I don't have an American visa (although I do have a Diner's Club Card)
Re: One-Off (Xmas Turkey)
Gosh ... I may now be confused amid the swirling conversation ... but yes, I am a son ... a Richard ... albeit my sensibility is quite strongly and deeply towards the feminine (so I feel, and so I'm told!).
As I wrote perhaps, in a poem long ago, there are things which are deeper yet than gender ... let alone biology!
And by this, I can't resist throwing in one of our Master's most beautiful little word-explosions:
"The last time that I saw him, he was trying hard to get
A woman's education ... but he's not a woman yet ...."!
So .. may Happiness be upon you both ... and with those tuna melts in prospect, Happiness no doubt assured!

Re: One-Off (Xmas Turkey)
now, I'm confused. Is Gladys your wife or your husband? Either way I'm very glad that the 2 of youse will be sticking around whatever the true nature of your relationship. Just one word of warning, there is a guy here, called Cate, he is trouble with a capital F. I advise you to steer well clear of him.rmorgan wrote:With Gladys!

Feeling Christmassy today, wanted to move up this fun Turkey poem.
