I recently had my Leonard Cohen key chain on a table at brunch with two girlfriends. The key chain features the unified heart from Cohen's recent tour. In addition to the unified heart is an illustration of two hands with parted fingers. I was told by somebody at the concert that the fingers represented the Spock Star Trek hand signals from the show. However, my girlfriends (who are both Jewish) said the hands actually represent an ancient prayer. I recently found a description of this symbolic meaning on a website of a jewelry designer in Israel. He makes spiritually inspired jewelry and I thought other fans may find this bit of news interesting as well. Also, Cohen, means priest! (Another fascinating fact.) Cheers and happy New Year to all! And an excerpt from the website:
The Priestly blessing was handed to Moses when he completed the preparation of the Lord's temple at the time of the Israeli tribe’s journey in the desert. The blessing was given to Moses to protect Israel from the Evil eye. The blessing brings spiritual protection and abundance.
The priestly blessing has been passed from generation to generation in a very precise way that contains secrets relating to its number of letters, and the exact way of reciting the blessing.
When recited, the Cohen (priest) raises his hands with his palms facing outward and the thumbs of his outspread hands touching. The four fingers on each hand are split into two sets of two fingers each (forming the letter Shin).
The translations of the blessings are as follows:
May the lord bless you and protect you
May the Lord shine his face to you and be gracious to you
May the lord turn his face to you and give you peace
The priestly blessing is the oldest Jewish talisman and is helpful for protection and spiritual abundance.

Hi Lisa ~
There are aspects of what you've noted here that have been posted and discussed here before; however, I don't recall all of its being presented here at one time in one place, as you've done so completely. Your post turns out to be very informative coming as a whole in the way you've done it
. Thanks so much for your thorough investigation and presentation
