(TORONTO) The Melanie Morgan Band may have won the battle -- Whosarmy won the war.

Lead singer Travis Wood, guitarist Cory Williams, bassist Greg Markham and drummer Max Trefler took the grand prize in CBC's Cover Me Canada competition Sunday night, winning $100,000, a recording contract for an original single to be released by Universal Music Canada, as well as featured airplay of the single on CBC Radio 2.

But Whosarmy cemented the victory with a reprise of their hauntingly beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah,' which they had also covered a week previous in a battle with The Melanie Morgan Band.

That version -- an acoustic affair that featured Mr. Wood and Mr. Williams alone on stage -- had earned a standing ovation from the judges and Sunday night's would prove no different.
