an olde thing i wrote for Plath a couple of years ago....

I don't know if this is at all interesting outside of being a 'Plath fan.'

Your Presence Confirmed
(for Sylvia Plath)

Your words Condensed
Encyclopedic volumes in our palms
Freeze dried, watered with our DNA
You reconstitute
with a Splatter
pieces of us…Pieces of you
patterns on the wall.
Cajoling them to look like you,
connecting the dots in a black & white world
Aching to try colors
Only your mirror remembers.

With best intentions, Our myth skirts
Your living hell.
Your dying heaven.
In our dreams We save you from yourself.
Heroes of Poetic proportions
Gods and Goddesses from the Future
Your dead father's fan club (and yours)
Keeping a safe distance from the flame
Something you could never do
Spectators (Cowards if you must know)
to a life born to Create and
Die for the art of Words.
A familiar play, we found carved in stone
And confirmed by the moon.
A gift.
Just what we always wanted,
but had to buy for our selves.

hey, i love plaths stuff, and i think that that is a great poem describing an admirer's feelings towards her and her work. "our myth skirts your living hell" what a great way to describe the sensation of reading her fears and tourture at a safe distance. "spectators(cowards if you must know)" again, caught it brilliantly,with honesty,and a sort of regret at not being closer to her,even in her death.

What a charming name you have!!

Glad you enjoyed my poem. I can tell from your comments you do 'understand' the dilemma that exists when Plath's poetry/life becomes a thing of great fascination.

In case you are interested, November 1, a facsimile of SP's original manuscript of ARIEL will be released. It is well known that her husband (Ted Hughes) eliminated some poems and re-arranged the order that she intended right before her death. This new version of ARIEL will right that wrong.

oh wow, thanks, i shall definately be looking out for it when it comes to the shops.so,it will be in the order that she intended it?i hope so, i could slap ted hughes with a wet fish for being a silly monkey and messing with her work! i mean,what was he thinking?so disgracefull to her(and i dont like his poetry!)i had to study his poems at school...didnt not enjoy them
