Re: "Hallelujah" in finals of the Polish X-Factor
Oh I feel like getting sick after my lovely breakfast. Why did I have to click that link
When I read comments about Burke not "getting" the song when she first dared to sing it, it made my blood boil and now it made her loads of cash she is happy to sing it whenever she wants. Go away Alexandra Burke and go away X Factor!!!

I dont get it what is so horrible about this Hallelujah? Its a good version, I'd say even very good.
The song itself has been overdone but that is a different discussion.
p.s. I heard it a couple of times again and I am still at a loss why this is supposed to be so awful.....I especially enjoyed the second lady (she has a good voice and puts some passion into the performance) but the duet itself is very good. Hallelujah versions are quite common now and most of them put me to sleep (including my hero Willie Nelson's version), but this is excellent, I think.

The first "lady" is actually a 20 yrs old boy, and he even doesn't know the words of the song. The two 'ladies" present awfully commercialized, circus quality version, IMHO.Kush wrote:I dont get it what is so horrible about this Hallelujah?

well to each his own....I thought it was pretty good myself. Commercialized yes, but that in itself doesnt necessarily make it bad. I dont believe I have heard Alexandra Burke before but she's good atleast here.
I was gonna make a comment that there was something about Dracula about the first "lady" but decided against it but I did not guess she was actually he.

This conversation sparked my curiousity but I was able to watch only part of the video. Kush, you're right. They harmonize well and every note they hit is perfect. They show emotion, but the emotion is for effect - to sell themselves. Does this package make it good? The only cover of this song that is good IMHO is kd lang's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_NpxTWbovE
Kindest regards,

(P.S. I thought he was a pretty good looking woman - lol )

I agree with mirka and musicmania: this is awful, it caused me pain.

Hi MaryB - KD Langs version is good too. I am actually pretty easy to please, there is rarely any music that I dislike although some I am indifferent to. I think I tend to like a little creative, maybe slightly left field cover versions more than others.
This kind of talent competition has always existed although previously more at local level/village level. Now with modern technology and internet etc , everything goes global and commercialized and they usually throw up some pretty good stuff like Miss Burke.
