When I initiate conversations
I have a gentle way of
Allowing you to feel comfortable enough
To speak to me unreservedly,
And when I am around you
I have a tranquil demeanor that
Allows you to feel pleasant in my company,
And sometimes when we speak
It shows.
When you don’t initiate conversations
You have a timid and candid way of
Letting me know
You are not as comfortable with yourself,
And sometimes when you are around me
It shows.
When you do initiate conversations,
I know that I have helped you
To feel relaxed and reassured,
And it delights me to acknowledge that connection,
And sometimes when you are around me
It shows.

When I know I’ve got you thinking
About something that makes you happy,
Or when I see you smile and enjoy yourself
When we are around each other,
And when I begin to feel
That my gentleness and tranquility
Help you to feel pleasant and comfortable
With being just as you are,
It allows me to be just as I am.
And I know that perhaps there’s a chance,
In conversation and in person,
When we smile at each other,
That affection may never flourish,
And it shows.
