Helen/?

Why don´t you look back at this forum and occasionally, very occasionally, a real piece of poetry is posted.

Might that be one of yours?

Reality Check you are a faceless coward who has not the courage of your convictions, to reveal yourself. Carp on all you want, the reality of the check is that you have no principles. A faceless coward.

Well, Reality Check, What's your motivation then? Is it for the good of my poetry or just to score cheap, childish, digs at me? I can look after myself without masked nobodys giving me advice so KINDLY BOG OFF. Look after yourself (if you can decide who you really are).
Adieu.

George, it is *entirely* to help you with your poetry. Do not be misled by a site where critiques start with thew word *wow*. Why not post to the newsgroup I mentioned as you will be better able to asess how you are really doing. Can't you even see the difference between the draft I prepared fro you and your own verse?

Come on, Pal. I am helping you without anything in it for me. This is my very last attempt to give you a reality check and a little push to better writing. Bye and Good Luck.

In reply to Reality Check, and others,
I would like to point out that the Allpoetry site does not only consist of mediocrity promoting mediocrity.
Of course that will be most noticeable in a fleeting perusal. Mediocrity will always be in the majority, anywhere... the Bell Curve, Sturgeon's Law et al. However, there are a prestigious few who do frequent the site, and provide their literary knowledge and help to those who need and look for it. They are the ones who make it worthwhile.

I noticed R. C. mentioned that the site s/he was recommending "has a lot of trolling spoiling it". Funny, we don't seem to have that problem at Allpoetry, do we Georges? Our moderators are fabulous! :D

The Allpoetry site promotes encouragement and community. There are enough 'straight shooters' who tell writers what they need to fix etc. in diplomatic ways to balance out the "wows" (those are often the kids, and there are a lot of them!).

So, making arbitrary judgements about the site Georges (and I) have chosen to frequent, without any real knowledge of it, is really only snarky.

One will always be drawn to where one receives the most understanding and appreciation. That's just natural! Apart from having an incredibly vast and diverse readership.

By the way, Georges spelling in his poetry is pretty near perfect from what I've seen lately. Everyone grows at their own pace..... there's hope for you yet!

Cheers all! ;)

err, I checked the site as well and I do not think my judgement is arbitrary. there may be exceptions to a standard of backslapping mediocrity but the quality is generally really poor and the "wow" responses are misleading to beginners like George. He has apparently now become too fearful to allow his efforts to be properly tested and that's a shame for him.

Critic2/ Reality Check/ &/or other Whatevers ~

Aw, poor things, miss having someone to torture eh? I'm sure Georges would be flattered :P

Apart from the redundancy of your mind-numbingly obtuse statement, the obvious lack of comprehension is only exceeded by your presumptive arrogance.

Fascinating how we've seen no examples of your poetic brillance or even examples, for comparison, of what you would consider the epitome of poetic brilliance.

oh, that old baby logic. so, if I have never been a politician I can't criticise what they are doing to my country. really sophisticated thinking, Makera.

and that other old trick. where did anyone mention brilliance? George's poetry remains mediocre whether there are examples here of decent, good, or brilliant poetry from other posters.

this is not an exercise in "torture". reality check was restrained imo. he suggested another forum apart from allpoetry so that George would not be misled by easy praise from other novices. but neither George, nor it seems you, have the confidence to face the possibility that he has a point.

your carefully chosen big and combatative words in your latest post, Makera, do not come close to making an argument. they are instead a defensive and rather unattractive whine.

Oh dear! Hung up on a word choice? Try 'ability' instead of 'brilliance' then. What a ridiculous non sequitur! Who said you only have to "be" something in order to acquire accurate knowledge of it?

Just more avoidance of inconvenient facts, deliberately ignoring my statements about something I am actually familiar with.
So, a rebuttal of deliberately ignorant misinformation is a "defensive whine", is it?
How interesting.

I still see no examples from you that would give credence to anything you've said. On the contrary, you have proved my point. Thank you. :D

please tell me you arent really as silly as you appear from your posts. which "inconvenient facts" did you have in mind?

and do quote any few lines of George that you think represents decent poetry. and remember he claims to be a writer, I only claim to be a critic.

some people are politicians, some are voters. some are baseball stars, some spectators. not too difficult really. take a deep breath and see if you can keep up, Makera.

Oh gosh, I'm sorry, I forgot your comprehension problem, or is it selective memory? The subject was the Allpoetry web site, and its actual membership of consequence, quality, and constructive usefulness in improving writers' skills etc. (e.g. conducts regular classes in various forms of poetry). Have you got that?

Makera weeps
her search for Mr Wright is over.
On their first date he brought her
a box of assorted clichés
and they line-danced, like professionals,
in strict ABAB rhythm
and George has won an award

Makera weeps
that not everyone signs her guest-book
with a nice rhyme each time.
And they talk in howwid tones
of ideas that make her brain hurt
and she’s feeling hurt
and it isn’t fair.
Can’t they see
All Art is there
in her Boyfriend’s words
and George has won an award

Billy Shakespeare show respect
Keats, you’re second-rate
Mareka knew from that first date,
she could instantly detect,
that T.S. should fall on his sword-
because George has won an award.

PS- this was written by my little finger
in which, more talent resides,
than all the stuff
in your insides

(but I admit I don’t know if you are a boy or a girl and I promise I was not trying to make any point about sexual identity)
