The Rabbit and the Cat
They met at the intersection of next and forward. The Cat with his maps and google printed directions and the Rabbit with her star charts and general inclination. He offered her some fish, she offered him some grass … they decided they’d rather have their own, their own but with each other. The leafless willow bent a little to give them some shelter. Both had about as far to go as they had already come and we’re starting to feel a little weary.
For a moment they paused.
Decided to spend a night with the willow
and each other.
They lied close to one another and enjoyed a warmth that isn’t that common when traveling alone through the winter. He told her stories of when he was a back ally rater - he was adventures and excitement. She told him myths of how spring brought the first green and of a lost bee who fell in love with an orchid - she was still and a needed pause.
The sun came again, as it always does... dim at first, then brightening until pinks and purples turned back to blue. They hopefully compared their routes and possible destinations, but sadly they were meant to travel different paths and this was only a minor meeting. Briefly they touched noses before he sauntered one way and she hopped off another.

He had the most beautiful hands – water hands, hands of a poet, of a thinker (ummm I mean paws – he had beautiful paws) She would memorize them – search for them in her dreams, implant them into her deepest memory so that if, on the very off chance there came another life, she would recognize him.
The Rabbit and the Cat
Re: The Rabbit and the Cat
.. this is sweet. I missed it amid all the other animal posts. Oh, and Rabbi's. I'm somehow reminded of those children's books (though your themes are more adult).. remember: The Wind in the Willows?.. I may have to find those books again.. (they pull at my heart strings)..Cate wrote:(in keeping with the animal theme)

Re: The Rabbit and the Cat
Thank you Violet.
I liked the Wind and the Willows too, as well as Watership Down.
