[Atom Heart]

He stepped out,
into the St.Johns morning
bright and grey.
Cool was the breeze
from the water,
softer was the sound
of that wind.
He crossed the silent street.
The worm-eaten deadfall
lay in the gutter
where his cigarette,
in waiting
left scars.
A lady passed
with shades.
He boarded
the rolling billboard
or bulletin,
beep, beep.
Some man
was strolling
right there, no lie
in the middle of the street,
like it was his own secret path!
He picks up something;
and it shines
for the sun has broken
through the city.
