Ok,
I can't say that we didn't get the egg that we'd ordered, but the landlady was a lot nicer to us after you and Jean ran the interference and called them out on their egg conclusions. It was a bit scary seeing all of the partial bits of your breakfast, half-eaten, on display for all of us as we recognized all the violence that must have taken place.

Just to change the subject a bit, Anne & I became grandparents as of last Thursday. The young lad is named, Xavier Joseph and came in at 21 inches long and 7 pounds. Anne & I drove down on Friday to see him and his Mom & Dad. We helped them move home on Saturday. Anne is staying to help out and the young lad is taking advantage of every opportunity. He's got his days & nights turned around and has kept them up the last two nights. I said that you have a new Mom with above average intelligence, a Grandma who is a neo-natal nurse, and a father with a Phd and this young lad is directing the whole show. Good luck to them, our dog, Zena & I are sleeping well.

I hope mother and son are doing well. I remember many years ago the early days after my firstborn. I was like a zombie for about 6 months!

I was out in the sea watching the sun rise over the mountains while the egg drama was occurring. My whole life I have been away dreaming while stuff was going down. At least you could move into Paula's b&b Phil. It would really have put a dampner on things if you and Jean had left early.

Joe! That's wonderful. He is lucky to have such grandparents. Nice that Joseph is one of his names. Yes, it must be great not to be the ones who have to stay up half the night every night for months. But where would we be without our new babies? Very many congratulations to you and Ann and the whole family xxx.

Congratulations ! Anne and Joe
You must be absolutely thrilled at the new addition to the family . We are still waiting for the honour of becoming grandparents but I am sure it will happen in the not too distant future . We have just been to visit Ian and Sally in London to see Carmina Burana ( fabulous performance ) at the royal albert hall . While we were there we hinted daily about the subject of offspring but there wasn't much response !
We also had a couple of nights sightseeing in Oxford . When we arrived the landlady asked us what we would like for breakfast the next morning . After a long pause Jean timidly said " Can I have poached eggs on toast " to which the landlady replied ; " Where do you think you are Barmouth " . Jean will have to learn to curb these outrageous demands on the hotel fraternity and stick to full english like me !

Thanks to all for your greetings on this new beautiful grandchild!

I just have to relate a couple of stories. As I said, the baba has exerted his special powers to rule the night. Last night Anne picked the last shift from 4 AM until 7 AM, Katie had the middle shift which involved feeding little Xavier and she put a little bed buddy into his crib to warm it up and swaddled him after he was fed. He slept all the way through Anne's shift until after 7 AM so Anne was off the hook! She joined Zena and me in having a good night's sleep. We are still working on Katie & Jeremiah's sleep, and it will probably be a while until they have a long one.

Katie also had to take Xavier to the Pediatrician yesterday and the appointment was a 10 AM. Due to some last minute diaper activity, she was delayed until 9:55 AM to leave the house, as she was running out the door, Anne said, "Don't forget the diaper bag!" Anne recommends adding at least 30 minutes to get this kid ready for anything.

Dear friends,
After great joy comes great sorrow...very early yesterday morning Emily's water broke and Jim rushed her to the hospital. Because she was 23 & 1/2 weeks gestation and the viability of the survival of the baby begins at 24 weeks, they opted to have a C-Section to gave the baby a chance to survive. James Robert was born at 4:24 AM, but didn't survive. He was one pound six ounces. We all had a chance to hold him yesterday. Emily and Jim are as heart-broken as I've ever seen anyone. Please keep Emily & Jim in your thoughts and prayers.

Dear Joe and Anne..... so so sorry to read about your loss. I really hope that you are ok and I am thinking of you. My thought are with Emily now. My first daughter died at the age of 15 days so I know that feeling of loss very much.
